I’ve got a 95 c1500 wt. I blew up the 4.3 that was in it so I did a 5.7 swap and everything was going good for about a week and then it burnt up 3rd and 4th gears. I’m needing to rebuild the 4l60e but wanting to order everything all at once and for as affordable as possible. Could you guys help me out with a complete parts list of how you would build it? I’ve got a couple of the service and rebuild manuals for the 4l60e and I’m wanting to try to build it myself. Thank you.

I rebuilt my 4L60 early last year, not a 4L60E, but I think most of the parts are the same. Note that if you buy a "rebuild kit", it comes with seals and gaskets. It doesn't have all of the steel balls you need. It doesn't have clutches or steels. It doesn't have the band. It doesn't have a filter. It doesn't have new c-clips. It doesn't have new bushings.

Rebuild Kit Pioneer 750033 RockAuto $40.89
High Friction Clutches Raybestos RCP96087 RockAuto $35.79
Steels Assorted OTS $44.47
Line Pressure Booster Kit Sonnax 700R4-LB1 RockAuto $14.88
Extra-Wide Kevlar Band Sonnax 77700-01K RockAuto $29.79
Hardened Sun Shell Sonnax 77749-02K RockAuto $80.79
2nd Gear “Corvette” Servo Kit Sonnax 77701-04K RockAuto $24.79
Super-Hold Servo Kit Sonnax 77767K RockAuto $50.89
5-Planet Reaction Carrier AC Delco 24241244 Summit Racing $230.99
Overrun Clutch Spring Plate GM Genuine 24206085 RockAuto $5.20
Case Vent Tube GM Genuine 24202440 RockAuto $5.47
Filter Raybestos 515700 RockAuto $14.13
Oil Pan GM Genuine 8667545 RockAuto $17.48
Valve Body Separator Plate OTS $16?
Bushing Kit OTS $17
Line pressure valve c-clip OTS $1?

All of this cost me about $700, and I probably could have saved $100 in shipping costs if I'd known up front everything that I'd need. I'd completely forgotten about Oklahoma Transmission Supply - https://otsparts.com/. They're local to me, and once I started comparing prices they beat everyone else, every time, including RockAuto. They have really good customer service, and if you call them up and tell them you're a first-time rebuilder and need all the most common parts for a 4L60E rebuild, they can probably spec you out a kit. If you're in the OKC area, they're downtown. They're about a block north of I-40 on Western.

Some people don't like the 5-planet carrier, and that would save you $230, but I think that's a weak point.

If you can find a copy of this book, the exploded diagram is invaluable.

This guy's build videos are pretty detailed. I haven't watched the 4L60E video, but here's a link.

I think that's overpriced for not having the hardened sun shell, the line pressure booster, either servo, no overrun clutch spring plate, and no valve body separator plate.

Z-pak is garbage. use the newer 4L60E Borg Warner High Energy clutches. I would call Dana @ Probuilt Automatics. He puts together custom rebuild kits with quality parts.

Don’t forget to order the voodoo and black magic that makes automatics work. :p
Jk. I’ve taken classes, watched videos and read books, about automatics. Even rebuilt one in class and I still couldn’t tell you how they work or what parts do what inside them. I guess my brain just doesn’t want to know how they work hahaha.

Well I called OTS and asked the guy for a price of a rebuild like he would rebuild it for himself. He said with the master kit, forward sprag, band, filter, electronics it’d be about $850.
