Hey guys. While chasing a small voltage drop last week, I discovered that two different parking light plugs are burnt and brittle as well as some questionable splices and crimps within the harness (probably why it’s blew a bulb twice now)

PO put the 94-98 headlights in, hacked how they changed the 89 plug to fit 9005/9006 yeah cool whatever.

My question is since this harness is more of a hack than good. I’m just looking into finding another headlight/parking light harness for my truck. Correct me if I’m wrong but do I need to stay year specific for mine since it’s an 89 for the plug at the firewall to fuse box. or will a 94+ headlight/parking light harness work?
Thanks

This would be my original firewall plug for my headlight harness for plug reference.

I've never owned a 95+ truck, but my gut says those are all different electrically. If it were me, I'd go to a "treasure yard" and take the harness from one of those trucks. Ten inches from the connectors back should be more than plenty. Splice that in place of whatever the PO hacked in there. I've yet to have problems with crimp connectors with heat shrinkable ends + adhesive. I also double up on the heat shrink tubing- adhesive lined stuff is best. This is of course if your harness is perfectly fine except the area where the PO hacked it up.

Another option would be to find a 1990-1994 truck and just take that trucks entire harness & swap it over. 1990 was the first year for the composite headlights. Most folks swap out their composites for the four eye look...

Thanks for the advice once again. I’ll prolly go with the treasure yard option. The PO already swapped out the headlights. I dig the ones in it now..
now I jus have to go back and fix the headache.
