Yes, it is a Dana 70. I just counted the splines on a axle and it has 35 splines..

I have started researching it and I think the 14 bolt had 30 splines. It seems like GM did use the Dana 70 on dually applications...I have lots to learn about the new project!

The truck seems to be a high miles (229 000 or so) so I assume most of suspension and drive line need rebuilding . When money allows I want to rebuild the diff. I think for now; I will take advantage of the good weather (the truck will be worked on outside) as well do things that don't cost much and are just labor..

My plan for now-- and remove the bed, remove suspension/ gas tank etc, POR 15 the frame, and fix the cab corners. I figure it will take me 1 or 2 years to get it up to *****..

What about the leaf springs? Any way to test if they are still good? How many bolts to remove the bed?

8 bolts in the bed. There should not be anything wrong with the leaf springs as long as they are not broken.
