The P5s all came with the “updated” fsde,it’s a twin cam 2.0 that’s super similar to the Miata engine,I’m pretty sure it’s just a different head. But no worries,I’m not keeping the FSDE. I’m going to pick up a mx6 with the KLDE and 5spd,same as a probe gt from the mid 90s. I’m gonna put big cams in it,make an aluminum intake for it with bigger runners, headers, and port the heads along with injectors and I’ve been kicking around the idea of spraying it as well lol. I probably won’t,it should be rowdy enough.I'm split between expressing sorrow for your project, and being gleeful in the demise of another Cavalier.
I have a friend who partnered with another guy to build a 7th gen Protege for Rallycross. It was never competitive, even with a full set of custom built coilovers. The 1.8 was hopped up with a bunch of Miata parts, but it was still way underpowered. The Protege5 is an 8th gen with the same motor. If you want any serious performance, I'd recommend either boost or an engine swap.
Last I heard the owner sold the car for about 1/4 of what he had in it. I'd considered it as a first car for one of my kids, but by that time it had sat so long it was developing problems.
Sad news..a tree fell on the wagon,so it’s getting scrapped along with the s10 frame..oh well, time to start on my 4wd protege5..
Same here,if I ever run across another one I’m gonna try again. But thanks man!Thats too bad, would of like to seen it finished, good luck on your next build....
