Oh yes. But, you'll need a stand alone transmission controller or go with the EFI version that will control your 4L80e. Vortec fi sucks and really cannot support a 502.
I solved the tranny problem by going manual with manual transfer.
A 502 engine is bolt in. Go with iron heads unless you want to go custom brackets and find all the accessories to work. Factory accessorie brackets won't bolt onto aluminum heads.

Are you saying the intake will choke it out or that the computer can't handle it? Because the computer can, and the 411 can do it that much better.

It'll run, but the Vortec ECM lacks HO maps for the fuel requirements of a 502 ht
BB Vortec FI is one sorry, difficult to repair, FI system.
An aftermarket FI could be the answer, but expensive and complex setup. FITech is not bad expensive, and will support a 502 ht, but they are not robust items. And, back to the stand alone trans controller.
Late trans controllers work well and offer a broad application spectrum. Most aftermarket FI systems will not be emissions compliant.
Another issue with Vortec FI is valve cover height. Only low profile valve covers (with non adjustable rockers) will fit beneath the throttle body.
MerCruiser offered a Vortec BB manifold that set the throttle body high (non-EGR). Not sure what it might interfere with on the truck.
If it's going to be non emissions compliant (obliviously off road only), a spread bore Qjet is an excellent squirter that will support 600 hp plus. And be great on the street. A Holly is also good, but more expensive to set up. Coupled with a manual transmission, simple and very dependable truck. Easily tuneable...for off road use only, of course. I think of carbed Vortecs as "deleted". Cool modern term.

Gotta add that "doable" can be confusing. Your Vortec has modified square ports. Only 7.4 uses these ports. 502 engines are typical of 70's oval port heads. If you want a 502. Build one based on your engine.
Unless...you're ok with aftermarket FI or carb, and standalone trans control, a 502 crate motor isn't ideal. Your Vortec FI will not bolt onto the 502 unless you use Vortec heads, which can be done.
Drop in a Scat stroker, bore .060 over and you'll have a 502 Vortec. And an engine worth 4 times the value of most 'burbs. With good cam choice. It will perform very well below 4000 rpm.

For S&Gs. Here's a sample of good major components for your new 502. Or 489 if you go first bore .030.

This is not true. The MAF, VE, timing, everything can be adjusted in the PCM to accomodate a 502 or whatever you want to put in there.

I have messed with a HT502 under a L29 intake. Swap the 454s crank reluctor ring onto it, timing cover and cut down the balancer. Bolt the intake on it after port matching it as best as possible and get to tuning.
