I ran 10:1 on a TBI'd 406 with 87 octane. Thing was an absolute monster. Zero issues with the motor. All stock ECM and fueling. Many S/C are designed to run on stock motors, meaning not forged internals. They aren't putting out that much boost.
10/1 is definitely doable. With the help of a knock sensor and electro dizzy. It would kill the timing with a stock cam.

But getting 10/1 out of a 400. Isn't stock. So I'll assume your running a pretty good cam

Just wanna say y'all are Killing me

In 1970 regular leaded fuel was 94 octane
Super was 103. And alcohol free.

The lt-1 also had about 50° more duration than the L31

More duration = more bleed = less effective compression

In the '70's ALL gasoline was leaded, 87,89 91and 94 ALL contained lead

Wynjammer has sold a 100% bolt-on supercharger kit for these engines for many years now. Whipple used to as well. I'm willing to bet there are plenty of people out there running boosted Vortec 5.7s on stock bottom ends.

Not gonna say ur wrong.

It's not the bottom end I'd worried about

I don't see how you could control detention on an already high compression small block.

I have to run 89 even with mild timing. And I've only got 9.6/1

Trigger you're a dumbass for advocating against a blower on a stock bottom end. Sure it won't take 20# on stock internals, but Whipple has been selling kits that make 6# long before real OBDII tuning was a thing and people weren't blowing their **** up. My dually has had a blower strapped to it for at least 100k miles and I added one to my 1500 around 240k and I wouldn't have it any other way. Boost is the way to go 100%.

Hmm.. not once. Not even once did I say anything about the bottom end. Not a single time. A cast crank is good for at least 8# all day long. I don't know what conversation y'all reading. But quit telling me I'm wrong about **** I ain't never said.

Y'all can thrash ur ****. I don't rightly give a ****. If I had whatever unicorn fuel y'all running I'd probably thrash my **** too
