I put the 370 series on my 1500 with police calipers and they fit fine. Didn’t even spread the clip.

The parts catalogs I've seen list the same pad part numbers for the police Tahoe's as the 8600 GVW 2500 trucks, which is a 370 series pad, versus the 369 series pad on the 7200 GVW 2500's and the 1500 trucks. Why is that if they don't fit?

They fit the caliper great. The problem I had on 2 sets of 2500 pads is that the outer pad would grind the rotor hat. I even ground the backing plate down flush with the pad and it still ground. It eventually self clearanced but left a groove in the rotor hat.

I kinda wonder now if a different brand rotor wouldn't have had that issue.

I think it is not brand choice rather the 370 pads work without mods on 2wd 5 lugs not 6lug 4wd.
Also the 2000 LTD/96-99 police had the 2500 master, I would go with that over the 800 master.

I had the same problem with the police brake pads hitting the rotor on my 4x4. I ended up having to use an angle grinder and take some off the pads
