I think the oil marketers also try to make their oils sound great and do everything and end up being very ambiguous, too. No one is going to market their gear oil, as "regular ole gear oil".... they want you to think it's special and talk about reduced friction, and compaibilities and lots of fluff. When I was looking at it years ago, I had a tough time figuring out if the bottle in hand had a friction modifier in it or not. I can't think why I cared exactly, as I don't have a locker. Maybe it was just that I was in the market and was remembering forum posts as I was reading bottles. I think I was trying to find synthetic 75w90 that wasn't super expesive. I think synthetic gear oil is easier to find now. Last time I changed it, I decided I didn't care about getting synthetic.
