Hello Everybody. I have a 1998 Suburban 1500 with the vortec 5.7. Does anybody know the stock diameter for the cat to exhaust pipe? because I am planning on putting cutouts on it and I need to know which diameter to buy. Thanks!
I think it is 2" all the way from the manifold to the muffler. This is a pic of the 1500 vs the 2500 exhaust.
For your Suburban I saw that you don't have any black trim how did you remove yours because I want to too! Thank you
Use a heat gun to warm up the glue that holds on the black molding on. Then peal away the molding. Go slow and take your time. Your going to be left with glue strips that run the length of the molding. The are hard to get off. I used an eraser wheel to remove the glue. http://www.amazon.com/AES-Industrie...pebp=1436449878724&perid=0BTV53XQ2DC7YZ6SQ7EG You can also find those eraser wheels at your local parts store. Then I used this product to clean up after the eraser wheel. It removes wax so make sure to rewax the area after your done.
Nice looking truck! My 99 Burb is the same color. Did GM get a good deal on this color? They used to be very common in my area of Texas (greater Houston)
Grab yourself a set of digital calipers ($12 at harbor freight) or take one of those "bendy" measuring tapes and wrap it around the exhaust. Take that reading and divide by pi to get your diameter.
The pipe is 2" like Big2500 Red posted. I just put a new muffler in my'98 on Friday and my truck also has 2" pipes from the cats to the muffler. The tail pipe is 2 3/4" from the muffler out .
My 99 Tahoe had the same 2" pipes. The 97 Express van was dual 3" from the manifolds to the muffler. I highly suggest anyone looking for power run 2.5" pipes off the manifolds or better yet headers to the muffler.
