What is all that "stuff" on the bed?

In the middle there appears to be an OE square of damping material. But there's so much other... "debris", on the bed.

On my Suburban the rear carpet lifts easily from the rear bed (once one has first removed the tie-down anchors). It's not glued in place. The bed beneath is steel, painted the body color (akin to yours) without anything else applied (unlike yours).

Was there a glue applied for some reason? Or some sound deadening material that you've removed but has left residue?
It appears the factory sound material was glued down and the carpet in areas on no sound material.

I had watched videos of other people doing it and saw the same, just comes right up. Must have been really bad recarpting at some point

So i bought 3 seperate items to attempt to tackle this, turns out they all suck, just letting the goo gone soak for a few minutes, then wipe, then spray with soapy water then scrub and it comes right off, scrubbing actually required, not just wipe away

First door panel in, have a few issues i need to flatten out still with other door.

Its a coverlay replacement, the switch assembly and light are a pretty snug fit, minor trimming may be needed, and the corner triangle is one piece with the door that requires some extra work

Putting on the aftermarket door handle trim on passenger side, i noticel door handle is very stiff, i sprayed some lube on the spring, cycled the handle a few times, seemed better. One moe time and something snapped, it really is dumb how much has to be taken apart to change these, pretty much have to start all over. Anyway, i suspect the reason it was stiff is why it broke, driver side had no issues, maybe i bent a rod

2 bottles of goo gone later, fixed the doors, the door handle trim pieces made by the same brand as the door handle dont fit, guess its find OEM and paint them

Ran out of insulation and tape, need to order more for the roof anyway, just a bit up to the firewall and the wheel wells left. Didnt want to get more then needed, stuff is expensive.

Update, vinyl carpet installed, rear plastic painted and installed, fold down metal thing installed, seats and center console reinstalled, have usb cable ran from head unit under carpet into center console for future blueray player, reused factory wiring for floorX4 shifter lights to power usb outlet in center console. Headliner removed and insulation installed. Re-taped roof electrical. Next project is removing foam and gluing new headliner next weekend. Testing lacquer thinner method instead of brush wheel.
