Did you ever solve your issue?
I haven't worked on it yet, unfortunately. It has been a busy week for me. Based on the diagram and the damage I found on the drivers side barn door, I am inclined to say the defogger grid is at fault but I won't know until I start poking around.

There must be a resistance value you can test across the heater coils themselves.
That's what I was thinking. I'm not too sure if anyone here has access to such information, but I wonder if it's in a repair manual somewhere.
