Hi all,

My intention with this thread is to give my vehicle the spotlight it deserves. I own a 1997 Suburban K1500, and, in my journey to make it the ultimate camping/tailgating machine, I have achieved a major milestone. I replace my original bumper with one that has a tire carrier. I have not taken many pictures at this point, but I will eventually compile a detailed summary of this upgrade. This was a necessary addition since the bed/drawer set-up made it impossible to access the spare tire in the back (see the attached picture).

I believe my summary has the potential to help someone that may encounter the initial doubts that I had before purchasing this particular product. It really comes down to my vehicle not being in the "compatible vehicles" list. The seller titled the posting as "Suburban Tahoe/Yukon 1992-1999" but did not specifically list a 1997 Suburban (only 1992 and 1993 models).

Once I post more details, I am also curious to know what differences there may be between '93's and '97's rear bumpers. My suspicion is that there is no difference since RockAuto sells the same bumper for both.

I remember reading about a few manufacturers who offered a bumper and spare replacement kit. With options for gas cans, and tool racks, shovel, axe, pick. The truck and four wheel interest magazines were a source info.
My mom's four door S10-15 ,? Had a swing away spare that cleared the tailgate.

I've been considering this same ebay bumper for my Tahoe, simply because of the rear tire mount which would be easier for me to deal with then getting under the vehicle due to health reasons. How satisfied are you with it? I see that there are some metal clasps and they look kind of "cheesy" to me. I'd like to hear what you think of this bumper. Also, is the bumper body the same depth, as I have a Class IV hitch on mine and I do not want to get rid of it because the bumper hangs too low. Also, do the tire and fuel tank swing outs restrict the opening of the barn doors any?

Thank you.

In continuing my search for a rear bumper for my 1999 Tahoe, I came across this from Baselind Overland. Now it is pricey at $3299.98 + Freight, however, you can compare the build quality to the one from eBay, and frankly, there is no match. Every possible question you could have is answered in their description. The fit, finish, and hardware are solid, compared to the other one, and it is made right here in the United States with US Steel, for those who have that particular caring. Apparently, you can also customize it, asking for two tire holders, instead of one. I do not know if you can switch the orientation of the tire from left to right. That would need to be checked. I would have no problem spending my money on this one, as the build quality is above and beyond and the hardware isn't like the other one. To each their own. I understand the difference between $780 shipped, and probably $35-3600.00 shipped.
