I have a 1996 Tahoe and I can not get the front axle to engage. When I push the button on the 4 wheel drive switch, the transfer case engages but the front axle doesn't. I have removed the actuator and tested it on a battery and it does extend. My question is what engages the actuator? Is it the push button switch or the switch on top of the transfer case? The older models with manual transfer cases used the switch on the transfer case to send current to the front axle but I don't know if this works on the same principle. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
