I am converting my 1996 K1500 4x4 actuator to the servo motor style.
I did this upgrade on a 1995 GMC K2500(6 lug) and it was a simple upgrade.
However, on that year I could bring the brown wire into the cab and plug it into the accessory block under the dash and it worked great. The instruction paper says to splice into the brown wire under the truck. I've found the wire at the transfer case and it's in a difficult-to-access spot.
Does anyone have a better solution that has worked for you?

Why can't you do the same thing as you did with the '2500?

My '88 still has the thermal actuator, I don't have "plans" to change it, but one never knows what the future holds. Subscribing.

There’s no terminal in the accessory block that is energized when 4x4 is engaged.

Then your best choice is to follow the recommended procedure.
I haven't looked at the wire diagram. So then where is your therm' act ' getting power from? Did you follow it back?
You mean the power distribution block? The bulkhead fittings?
