I'm leaning towards a stock 6.0, because I've got a hair trigger when it comes to going full retard.

Honestly a cammed and stalled truck wouldn't be a great pulling truck. Especially if it drives like my 90 does.

100% correct.

Most guys like to hear a lopey cam until they realize it has no power down low and your stalled auto is eating itself with heat.

The tuned VVT L96 in my 2010 2500HD I had was awesome for a gasser and dead reliable. I'm still on the fence what to do in 150k+ miles when my 454 dies. Rebuilt with a 502HT cam and a BBC TPI sounds like a winner, but the LS requires sooo much less maintenance!

Maybe get a 6.0 from a GMT800 Suburban 2500? The 2 that I own have LQ4 6.0 with 4.10s and they are pretty peppy, at least for a heavy truck. I've never driven a 2500HD Silverado with LQ4, but folks seem to say they are way down on power, probably because they are more likely to be worked hard and GM de-tuned them. It's probably just software, since the engines seem to be identical.

It's like 300HP/360TQ (Silverado 2500HD) vs 335HP/375TQ (Suburban 2500) factory ratings.

No difference in the HP rating based on vehicle. LQ4=LQ4, through the years there were some changes from iron to aluminum heads, and a cam change. Otherwise there is no difference, guys complain about the LS because they are used to the torque in the basement you get from a BBC and even the SBC. You have to spin an LS up to get into the torque curve...its like driving a 302 sbf...haha.

Gears are important when running an LS, to keep it in the "sweet spot."

8.1 swap?

I'd definitely to a 12 or 24v Cummins swap before going to an archaic 8.1. They're good motors, in the trucks they came from, but hard to justify the cost for the gain over an LS swap.

Exactly, i've already had my 20' car trailer attached to the suburban and my 90 rcsb on it. It does well enough for a 285hp engine. Saying I want a 6.0 or supercharger is just me nit-picking against the 2017 & 2019 ram trucks I had with 400hp Hemi's. Which is really an unfair comparison, considering they were both 8 speed transmission trucks, too.

Unfortunately an LQ4 is an LQ4, just as an LQ9 is an LQ9.

My friend did a 206/212 cam in his 5.3. The LSA was way tighter and he claimed more power from idle to redline.

No real updates. I've been daily driving the burb for the last two weeks.

Changed LED bulbs out for a $100 set. Hopefully they last longer.

Been busy replacing all of the original lenses with new oem style stuff.

Still waiting for my new roof marker lenses and seals to come in.

So far, the truck has averaged low 16s for mpg.

Nothing really new to note.

I did take the truck on its longest drive straight in atleast 3 years today.

Had to travel to Soldier, Kansas from work today. Ran about 175 miles round trip.

I'm impressed with the truck, it rides and drives out so well for a truck that's sat for as many years as it has.
