I just acquired a 1992 GMC 1500, with a 4.3 v6, looking to upgrade the TBI to something like an FTI TBI system or similar with the performer intake.
How does that integrate with the PCM?
Or where should I look to find the info?

I planned/thought about rebuilding my 5.7 and going to a multi-port FI which would need a stand alone PCM. To me, the cost is not worth the effort. An LS swap to me looks like a better deal.
I'm not familiar with FTI ( FiTech???) so I'm guessing it will also need a stand alone PCM????

It’s easy to run an aftermarket EFI simply leave all the factory EFI wiring in place and disconnect the fuel injector wires. Leave the rest connected.

Eric the Car Guy did this to a GMT 400. It's a whole series, so it will be easy to find on his channel. He went all in with a dash replacement and gauge upgrade, but at least you can see some idea of what updated TBI will look like work wise. For myself, I believe GM did a fantastic job with the TBI. I can tell because my truck still has no issues with the original set up after 36 years (I bought it new).

The strong suit of the factory TBI is reliability. When the engine is left stock the factory TBI works great. Not everyone is happy with 150 Hp to the wheels.

Once you start modifying the engine the factory EFI leaves a lot to be desired. Tiny throttle body limiting HP, limited tune ability, etc.

There are DIY options for tuning the GM TBI but it’s a safe bet that even a 454 TB setup won’t feed a serious engine build.

For a similar price of modding a GM TB EFI you can get an aftermarket EFI kit that at least allows you to tune it easily yourself plus they can support big HP. Use the auto tune option if you want to get running and then either learn to fine tune it or pay a pro to dial it in.

It’s worth looking at the fact that fir the amount you’d spend to get an aftermarket EFI you could buy a 99-06 LS engine. The downside to that is that the custom computer tunes may cost you $600+ per tune which is why the aftermarket EFI onto the SBC makes a lot of sense.
