    Door card insert Material change

Eh, it always made sense to me since in terms of older cars (50's, 60's, and probably older) the upholstered door panel is often backed by heavy cardboard-like material. "Door card" used in this context isn't difficult to understand. Richard

    Door card insert Material change

Since you have both "old" and "new" interior style trucks in your signature, mentioning which specific style of panel you're asking about should help. I haven't replaced the material on either style, but the construction is clearly different between them. Richard

    Interior light proplems

For the dash courtesy lights - if you manually push both switches (need a helper obviously) do they turn off? Sagging door hinges, or missing "buttons" (the small plastic inserts in the door panel) can cause a gap that prevents the switch from being pushed far enough to break contact. Dome and...

Interesting post on parts and machine work quality

Relevant to all areas of the motor vehicle hobby, IMO. From a FB page of a company called AZ AMC Restorations: "Due to the dwindling supply of quality machine shops and very poor quality aftermarket parts as well as a lack of people interested in learning the engine building and machine shop...

Breaking yard etiquette. Discussion debate personal views please

Maybe not necessarily so worried about things worth pennies to a large salvage yard, BUT, more to thinger's point that someone may have really needed that part and this was the only option their budget allowed. Why break something that someone else might use..? Richard

Gmc 6.5 1994 stanadyne Injection Pump

Full disclosure: I'm not a 6.5td guy and I have owned one and got rid of it, not a fan at all. However I do pay some limited attention to the goings-on with guys that do mess with them. For many years we've all been hearing that the "fix" for the electronic injection pump setup is to go to the...

I need mental help!!! What should I do?

Dropped ECLB's for the win! :) Sorry.. had to get that out of my system ;) Your '89 looks great! My opinions on the horsepower situation: 1. That 6.0/4L80E is probably your most direct option for more power. The 144K on the clock could be hit or miss at that point - it might be fine...

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

Sounds pretty good but I'd wonder if the JB expands/contracts readily with the aluminum so it won't end up cracking loose? Maybe it wouldn't matter since it's essentially sandwiched in there with the gasket and would likely remain until next disassembly. Richard

What to look at, for fixing lopey idle and running rich?

You can check that CTS with an ohmmeter. Easiest to do when the engine is stone cold at ambient temp, you would expect a reading that would match near that. Resistance value chart should be in the service manual but it's also been posted around the web a bit. Then of course once engine is...

    Ball Joints Brands

That's an AI response and is highly questionable. Based on what "facts" you'll never know. Common part #'s are prevalent throughout the auto parts industry. A great example of that would be brake pads. Richard

Looking for a picture of the wiring coming from the radio/Ac and heater unit in the dash...

These trucks vary quite a bit over the years, so year/model/any other info is always helpful in order to help you. Not sure a picture of the actual wiring will help, but diagrams should. They're in the factory service manuals, which can be found for free download here ->...

Aluminum rims corroding, leaking air, help needed

It didn't work worth a damn in my tiny air compressor tires. :( What an irony, my air compressor tires are always going flat. At least I've got a compressor to air 'em up with. Richard

Talk me into, or out of, it...

They got "busy" ... I reminded them I dropped it off THREE WEEKS AGO. I knew I shouldn't have trusted it when it initially got back to me so quickly. I'm worried we'll be in full-blown Summer before I'm driving it again and the next delay will be me fixing the A/C. Richard

    Glass park lights???

Correct- the 88-93 park lights have a dull silver surround, pretty much looks gray. It's a metal ring affixed to the plastic lens/housing. 94-98 have a different lens/housing where the surround is part of the lens and is painted black. Richard

The Official Vortec 454 Info thread

That gauge isn't gonna work for you. You'll need one with a schrader valve fitting as Schurkey mentioned. Unless you happen to have a hose you can thread into that block that has a schrader valve. Here's what works, just threads right onto the test port. Richard

    93 5.7 cat delete o2 sensor light

Point to the last several posts in this thread is an OBD I system doesn't have a post-cat O2 sensor to determine if the catalyst is doing its job; that's the one that will set the code if you don't have a cat, or your cat is bad. The code you might get from a bad pre-cat O2 would be if the O2...

Tearing the spare dash down to get ready to do some repairs to it, then clean, prep, and paint. And for those of you that haven't torn one down to this level (first 88-94 style that I have) - the L shaped trim pieces as well as the far right dash vent are in vinyl surrounds. They're kind...

Bought a used dash...not sure I'm gonna use it.

So I'm about to go out in the garage and start stripping the cut-up harness and other bad pieces off the dash so I can make progress on repairing and making it ready for paint. Wanting to get the products on the way - opinions on SEM vs. Colorbond vs. Duplicolor? And in the product of choice...
