    Engine mount 96 Suburban 7.4

I hacked off a lot of the front crossmember for cleanliness. I probably have photos in the thread I started about the job. You could make a bolt in or weld in crossmember to tie the engine mounts together. My friend did a bolt in one from simple square tube.

    What have you towed lately

That goose in particular is big enough it doesn't make much sense to put behind a little truck. Its heavy, big torque tube running down the length, huge i beam frame. Tandem axles right towards the rear. However, I got a smokin deal on it so it is what I've got. Tandem duals are a better setup...

    What have you towed lately

I was watching this auction and felt I couldn't do without 500ft of 4 inch pipe (40 foot lengths) two hours from home. Trailer is same I have posted before. 30 ft tandem dual Gatormade. 8500lb tare. 5k lbs pipe. Aside, got my 255 85s put on the red truck this year.

How to: NBS master cylinder swap for firm brake pedal

On my 98 I ran an 05 Tahoe HB and master because I had already swapped in a 03 5.3L so I knew the HB lines would match. It was easy to make the brake pedal rods mate up, you run a 3/8 NC die over each rod and connect them with an allthread coupling nut. I have a question that I don't think...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

Took a short hiatus to build the railing on the mezzanine. Knocked the perches off. I heard lots of horror stories about removing the cast perches. It took 5 minutes per side. It sits pretty nicely on the springs. I have to think about how flat/raked I want it to sit, adjust the pinion a bit...

    Anyone customized there skid plate?

Wouldn't consider it custom fabrication, suspension or cage related either.

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

The rear axle is sold so I'll get that pulled and maybe get that Sterling set in place tonight. Here's how the crossmember looks under the truck. Looks like I'll have plenty of room for the front driveshaft to travel but it would be quick to clearance the crossmember for it if needed. Its not...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

Some progress. I don't think I'll have to clearance it for the front driveshaft. The trans mount sits tilted 2 degrees which is equal to factory I figure.. This is a 1.5 x 3 tube that I found to be a good fit after some front crossmember hackery.

The track bar bushings are MOOG 3176 I think. TJ track bar rear poly bushing. They fit a 1.5 inch ID tube and the bolt sleeve is 1.6" long. We'll see if I nailed the track bar length on the first try. If I need to make it adjustable or make an adjustable on then so be it. I had to get the...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

The track bar bracket at the axle end is quarter but 3/8 at the ears. Got the coil buckets blasted because they were a little crusty. Leaned them back 6 degrees which is basically what they are on the Ford frame ..ish. The track bar bracket is .179 wall pipe with 2 inch 250 wall DOM for...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

I don't need a flex joint and they wear too quickly for my taste on something street driven. I found cool synergy parts that will allow me to make my track bar adjustable if I need, but I shouldn't really need. The bushings I am going to run are TJ rear track bar poly bushings. If those don't...

Its not a wheeling rig (the front axle in my Toyota is moved forward 3+ inches) and its also already the longest wheelbase available in GMT400 I think, so the turning radius is moot. Tire placement in fender is just an aesthetics thing at this point. I can fit a straight 36" trackbar. If I...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

Not too much of an update. I ordered a version of the Superlift 1104. I ordered from North Shore Offroad. It came in a BDS box. I just asked for a 78 Ford 4x4 Power Steering drop draglink and that's what showed up. I picked an arbitrary ride height, the roof of the truck at ~6.5' and set the...

Certainly both do have their place, and the torch has a place somewhere in there too. I try to use the recip saw on frames and exhaust wherever possible because you can pinch a zip disc and explode it pretty easily. Worst case with the recip saw is you wipe the teeth of the blade or bend it...

Got the duratracs sold and the welding deck pulled. One guy was inquiring about trading the welding deck for a nice 8 ft flat bed but he has dropped off the face of the earth. On the weekend I grabbed the front of the truck with a 5/16 chain and the loader bucket as I've done quite a few times...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

Still took a couple of evenings but beats crawling all over the truck trying to get at bellhousing, torque coverter, starter bolts. They really pack the engines back down in there. Couple hours pulling some the hoses and draining coolant then 4 cuts and you remove the truck from the engine...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

I have another small installment to make towards this project. A guy wanted the 5.4 so the parts truck got parted out. Once the extra junk was off my Dana 60 I started working on all the frame rivets. By far the easiest way was to through drill them with about a 1/8" bit and then blow most of...

How Chevy is an AAM axle when they ran identical ones in Dodge trucks? Chev and Ford run ZF6 transmissions. Chevy and Ford joint ventured the 8 and 10 speed transmission design. How much extra work am I going to subject myself to over stupid emotionalism such as "how much of my Chevy do I want...

    98 Crew Cab 454 SAs

Why look for a 10.5 AAM with rear disc? Then I would have to drill my front hubs and rotors to 8x6.5. I have a Sterling 10.5 matched to the front axle right there.

Picked up the axle donor, and its got 4.10s so I'll likely swap in the sterling SRW. I've got the 3 ton for dually duty.

So would it be bad if I ditched the welding deck and the DRW axle? lol Deck needs partial rebuild due to rust and I don't have a lot of use for it. My engine drive welder is a Big 40 so it wouldn't really fit on this little deck, more tailored to a 305g sized welder. I don't really need a DRW...

Time to start gathering parts to put a D60 under my 98 crew cab big block truck. Came across a couple threads (Carolina99Hoe) but if anyone has any other resources feel free to point me in the right direction. I'd like to keep it low as possible. I already have the front suspension cut out, I...

In for updates on this one. I've got a 98 crew cab big block truck in need of a coil sprung Superduty 60. Looks great so far.

    What have you towed lately

Forgot to update with this bit of ridiculousness. I pulled the backhoe to my buddy's place to do some work for the day. I pulled it on backroads, kept it around 2400rpm in 2nd gear at 60 ish km/h. It felt ok for power and the trailer handles the weight awesome but it got a bit warm and I backed...
