    Carpet Cleaning Advice

I have pulled them out of cars and trucks, hung them over my chain link fence, and powerwashed the crap out of them. Do it on a sunny day early and let it dry. Taking it to a car wash is going to leave you with a very heavy carpet to lift to try to get it to hang out to dry.

1994 Sierra 1500 stalled in road and won't start

Kudos for trying, but dropping in a new distributor is a tough one to get right if you aren't experienced. Most likely it I'd either off a tooth or 180 degrees out. What process did you use to install it?

Would you drive 2300 miles based on these conditions -

Trans died in my 97. I pulled it, threw it in my Pop's 88 and drove about 600 miles round trip to a friend's house who rebuilt the trans. Pop's truck hadn't made over a 20 mile trip in years. I checked the normal stuff before I left. Have faith

    Blower motor?

What he said. I don't know if that is your problem, but after replacing the fan switch 3 times in my truck, I took a better look at the connector. It was in bad shape and kept causing switches to fail. Yours sounds like the fan or connector at the fan, but check the switch connector too...

    cheap high flow catalytic converter?

Stock exhaust manifolds, short tube headers, or long tube headers? Manifolds and shorties will take the stock style y pipe and cats.

going with a carb'd small block

You'll be looking at a lot of rewiring. Once the computer is out of the loop, I don't think the gauges are going to function, so you will have to replace them with traditional units

That's how I deal with mine

    Blower motor

I fought an on again off again war with my fan and switch for years. Finally figured out that the wiring harness that plugs into the switch had overheated and melted/softened enough to move the pins and make the connection iffy. I have replaced the fan switch twice, put a whole new control...

If it were your truck ????

The 5.7 in my 97 has 235k miles on it, and runs great. I toyed with the idea of yanking the engine over the winter for a rebuild/upgrade when I pulled the trans for a rebuild. I just couldn't justify pulling out a great running engine. Sounds like you made a wise choice.

A nice surprise under the vinyl floor.

I wouldn't get too **** about what to use there. That's just patina, and all the cool kids love that. Wire brush and treat with any good rust treatment. Coat with a good paint over that and it will last another 25 years.

    Tbi to Carburetor

I started wrenching when the only thing out there were carburetors. Your initial post indicated that you were no mechanic. I was offering advice accumulated over about 40 years. Party on, Wayne

    Tbi to Carburetor

What are you trying to gain by switching to a carb? Worse cold starting? Worse gas mileage? Worse driveability? I'm not hating, but unless you have modified your engine beyond the TBI's ability to support, I don't see the advantage to swapping to a carb.

    Cheap overhaul?

Pulled the trans and had it rebuilt. I sat there looking at the motor and I just couldn't make myself pull out an engine that was running fine. I'll deal with it when it tanks.

Oil leak just before the transmission

My 97 leaks some oil. Not a puddle, but a drop here and there. It's also 22 years old and has a hole on the top of the engine to pour oil into. When the 222k mile, perfectly running engine gives up the ghost, I'll fix it.

There's a reason that more small block Chevy's have been swapped into everything imaginable. If you have a SBC, why go to something less powerful in an attempt to be different?

    Shift cable adjustment 97 4L60E

Your answer certainly had the smell of "been there, done that" on it. I had to facepalm when I read your answer. So simple. Yes, most go out. I'll flip it this afternoon and update.

    Shift cable adjustment 97 4L60E

You are the man. This jarred my memory and I looked back at some pics I took when taking stuff apart. I installed the lever with the stud out. I'll check it out when I get home today. It's always the simple stuff

    Shift cable adjustment 97 4L60E

I had my trans rebuilt and have it back in and everything buttoned up with the exception of the shift cable. It seems about a quarter inch too long now. It is adjusted all the way in at the end. I don't remember it being in a bind when I removed it. Am I missing something onvious? I could...

An IAC valve is like $20. Why would you try to work around a bad one?

Everything above, and...LOTS OF PICTURES. The age of having a digital camera (phone) on you at all times has made this much easier. Lots of pics of wiring, brackets, etc

Well, my trans took a dump today, so the decision is made. I'll pull them both after Christmas
