    305 in the 305..

I have to ask.. how the heck does a 4500-5000lb van plus an aluminum car hauler 1500lbs max plus a 3000lb Jeep add up to 14,000 lbs? My truck (05 1500 4500-5000lbs)((plus wife kids dog, extra 55 gal drum of water, 20gal of fuel and genny)) and 6000lb 28’ camper plus gear and a full water tank...

    Vortec heads on earlier 350.

Edit: seems the tbi/vortec heads have been discontinued for a year or 2. That sucks but then I can see why with nobody messing with that stuff anymore and swapping ls based motors instead.

    Vortec heads on earlier 350.

Get them as bare castings, I made the mistake of buying them loaded. Loaded with cheap **** Chinese parts. The castings themselves are Aussie or New Zealand made and are fine. Stock applications will react like popping an actual vortec head on 30-40hp and similar tq numbers. Benefit is you...

    Tapping/ticking noise

Pull the inspection cover on the trans. Look at the flexplate look for a crack or cracks. Might need an inspection camera to get up near the bolts. Other option is pull the trans anc converter back but that’s a lot of work.

    Well this sucks TBI down

That’s about the same thing I’ve told my customers for years and years. The HP and Tq. Numbers are the bonus on the paper you get. The real info is did it break if it did you can fix it before installed into the vehicle.

    Well this sucks TBI down

just got home from the machine shop. He stayed late to check it out for me. Definitely not a fuel issue. 6 of the retainers have been contacted by the rocker arms. Looking at pictures from when I put it together it appears that I may have gotten a mixed set of self aligning/non aligning comp...

    Well this sucks TBI down

It was something he mentioned having seen on very low usage engines that the fuel breaks down so quickly and gums up the valves. However that was a thought while on the phone, without actually seeing/inspecting the parts. I’ll be bringing them to him in the next day or so and will figure out...

    Well this sucks TBI down

The TBI motor I built a few years ago has some severe health issues. The piston married the exhaust valve. Match made in heaven but the pushrod was bent out of shape. Cam gagged on the lifter and puked it out. Fun puns aside it’s a can of bees being kicked around. Head is junk, cracked...

    Tbi to carb manifold

You have to drill out the center holes in the intake to correct the angle so they will line up with the holes on the tbi heads.

    How fast

I’m guessing fast enough somebody with flashy blinky lights on top of their car might not find it so amusing. But I can’t say I’ve never wrapped a speedo before haha!

    Cutting out during hard acceleration

Check back pressure of the exhaust. Clogged/failed converter can cause what you are describing. Also check the throttle linkage and make sure that when you have the pedal all the way down the throttle body is also going wide open.

I know what it is, not sure why it was suggested.

    Oil cooler plumbing and removal

Not sure what that canister suggestion is about, but that second picture is exactly what I suggested to eliminate the oil cooler. Not all trucks came with the cooler, and still don’t. Matter of fact my 05 does not have one either. Tows just dandy and if it really was a problem I’m sure it would...

    Oil cooler plumbing and removal

No you can not just plug those holes. Go to nearest parts store you need a melling MF350 oil filter adapter and 2 shorter bolts. Will take the same oil filter you have now.

    heads and a roller cam

Good info to have! I still have to see what ecm it is but anyway for now I have the cam info. Comp 08-500-8 it’s not super aggressive but it has just a bit of a lope at idle. Pulls hard all the way through the rpm range.

    heads and a roller cam

Not the good ecm, can’t remember the number off the top of my head. I’ll pop into the garage later on and check. I grab the cam number too. Currently running 14psi on early 454 injectors in the 350 tbi unit. 17* of initial timing. Backed by a nv3500.

    heads and a roller cam

Fwhp. There’s more that was left on the table, but we reached the limits of the stock injection and ecm. Someday maybe I’ll be able to play more with the computer and retune it e

Do i have an oddball or a replacement engine?

As mentioned it’s either out of a car or 2wd truck, or as is also common to eliminate the oil cooler lines you swap the oil filter adapter to the traditional vertical mount. (Melling number mf350) and you use a 51069 filter. The 51069 is the shortest version of the smallblock filter, and will...

    heads and a roller cam

I went with a comp roller cam, but I used a tbi block that had the spider provisions. (Fortunate to have connections with an engine remanufacturer and they were nice enough to go through the cores and find one for me) I also used enginequest heads, tbi intake pattern with a vortec style...

    Need some cam experts.

Smaller pulley on the blower an option? Otherwise yeah like mentioned call the cam company and have your exact engine specs at the ready and they should be able to help you out or help you figure it out. And I mean exact engine specs “gapped for boost” doesn’t really mean much. Need the...

    MPFI

It’s made by standard motor products. Same as oreilly’s and bwd etc. it is a fine product - though I suspect you could do better on the price. Last one I priced was right about $300 and I just checked o’reilly online has them for $336 plus a 15%off coupon. Don’t forget the intake gasket set.

    Frame question

Working on a 95 gmc suburban 1500 4x4. Rear frame rails went to hell but otherwise truck is in really good shape. Question is, I’m looking to graft the rear frame from a southern truck, is there a difference on the back half of the frames from a 2wd to a 4x4?

    Vortec heads on earlier 350.

I used a set of iron engine quest heads - vortec chambers mated to tbi intake manifold pattern. Added comp roller cam in a tbi roller block. Modified the tbi with 454 injectors and fuel pressure set to 14psi. Stock tbi intake. Pulled 300hp/385 ft-lbs on the dyno running the stock ecm.
