90 truck with 86-87 Corvette engine

So......better torque, overall better efficiency, equal length intake runners, port injection, are all somehow NOT worth upgrading to? So, I guess the LS engines also are NOT worth upgrading to since they have all those things and then some?? I'm so confused right now.

It would be a shame not to update to the TPI if you have everything.

    How much paint?

I agree. I've painted a little and that sounds about right. Keep in mind, your FIRST coat should be a light (tack) coat.....NOT your last. The others will be medium wet to wet depending upon your finesse with the gun and lighting. Not great lighting + wet coats = RUNS!!!

    "Factory turbo setup for SBC"

That setup is all about the cool factor on an old ratrod. I have an old Rayjay off a dumptruck around here somewhere. If a person wants it to actually run decent and make more power there are a multitude of better options available.

    Does anyone’s workbench . . .

What......is that even a real question? Any real working man has a bench that looks like that. I see the prerequisite cardboard painting surface as well!

    I'm considering doing a 10 % a$$ job.

Only been inside the Xterra/Frontier/pathfinder/300z type.....BUT they are real nice cause they come apart in sort of modular sections. Just a real well designed unit.

    I'm considering doing a 10 % a$$ job.

I don't have a horse in this race but I have rebuilt several ford, chevy, and Nissan transmissions. I just wanted to say THANKS for supporting the site and offering your knowledge on this subject. So great to have a shoulder to lean on when us diy'ers run into a snag!

93 Yukon Lugs trying to go from 4th gear lockup to 3rd

Watch TPS voltage as you move the throttle very slowly. Make sure it didn't develop a dead spot.

Stumbles on startup unless I give it gas

The IAC motor controls the idle. On older engines they simply get dirty and don't work properly. Unscrew it and clean the pintle (tip) and passages. Easy peasy.

    What should I get?

Any of them in the "90's" range will be fine. You're talking about towing light not a 7000 pound camper. Look for something clean, well maintained, original and spend the money there, or find something with rebuilt mechanicals and spend money fixing the cosmetics. The TBI 305 will get better...

Neal U Pull & Save - Peoria, IL

Thank you for the mindset to 'save' the door panels by placing them out of the weather. I too am known to randomly place good parts inside vehicles when i find that some a$$hat clown just threw them out on the ground. Some folks really do seem to have $h1t for brains.

    95 k1500 transmision advice

True. I bought a '96 one ton van with only 140,000 miles. L31 and 4l80. It had been sitting with a bad fuel pump. I put in some fresh gas and beat the fuel tank while my wife cranked on it. Got it running and drove it home for $400!!!

    95 k1500 transmision advice

While it IS pricey sometimes it's just the right move. I build my own and commonly spend 1000-1500 on the parts alone. The 'Monster in a box" appears to have just about everything needed for a performance overhaul. YIKES! Don't let that guy do any more trans work for ya. Hell, I built a TH200c...

    95 k1500 transmision advice

I shifted out my 700r4 at over 6000 rpm waaayyy too many times to count over a 15 year period......in a 4000# suv.....ran 1/4 mile times in the 14's......put over 80,000 miles on it and was still going when I parked it. The 4l60 will handle it if built correctly, if it doesn't last.....it...

93 this 350 running very rich

Sometimes an ignition issue can have you chasing a non-existent fuel issue. Start it up and point an infra red temp gun at every exhaust port. Keep going around as it warms up watching for one or more that might be staying cool. If you find any like that, check those spark plugs. Maybe fueling...

Manual shifting your auto for engine braking

I've used downshifting when towing forEVER. Have never had a trans go out on me, including my old Jeep with 4.0 and 42RE, and my S10 Blazer with 700R4.....both of those transmissions people are always whining about NEVER gave me any issues. I do it now towing with our Nissan Xterra. Now, when...
