Carbureted LS Swap on 1990 GMC w/ 700r4

Called Jegs and they assured me I have the right kit. I guess I'll know for sure when I go to mate the engine and trans.

Carbureted LS Swap on 1990 GMC w/ 700r4

Now, that I'm looking at it. I dont understand why they packaged a "dished" flexplate with a crankshaft spacer. I'm going to reach out to Jegs to see.

I bought them as a package from Jegs and thought it was necessary based on this guide

Thank you and that ends up being much cheaper since monster was going to charge $28 for shipping.

Carbureted LS Swap on 1990 GMC w/ 700r4

I also saw this that is considerably cheaper that I think uses oil pressure instead of vacuum. https://www.jegs.com/i/American-Autowire/073/500412/10002/-1

Carbureted LS Swap on 1990 GMC w/ 700r4

Thank you. This is the first I’m hearing of this. I found a motortrend article suggesting it’s optional but sounds like you feel it’s more important than they do. I may see how it drives without it at least at first...

Carbureted LS Swap on 1990 GMC w/ 700r4

Has anyone attempted or (hopefully) completed this swap? I have a 1990 GMC 1500 RCSB. It had a 350/700r4. I recently pulled the 350 and purchased a complete 6.0 LQ4 with DBC throttle body. I previously purchased an LS carb set up so my plan is to get it running on the carb initially, and switch...

350 is gone. Unfortunately, the trans fell out too and puked fluid all over my driveway. Luckily, I have an understanding wife, lol. I bought an LQ4 yesterday and have it stored in my back patio. Need to get it in quickly before the HOA letters come. I couldn't find a good thread on doing a...

I'm still in the process of pulling the tbi 350. Had difficulty reaching the bellhousing bolts, then went on vacation to visit family in TN. I have everything but the bellhousing and motor mounts unbolted and disconnected. Found a real good deal on a ls carb intake, 600 cfm carb, and MSD 6014 on...

I was actually thinking of swapping the rear axle/brakes and front brakes from a gmt400 2500LD. Will the GMT800 rear axle's bolt up or are the spring perches in different spots? I would prefer to go with GMT800 for the reasons you mentioned but didnt think it was an option w/o serious...

Maybe this would be a good option when I get there. Its new so I dont think its been tested by the market yet. https://www.psiconversion.com/products/vehicle_parts/chevy/1940-1998_chevy_gmc_pickup_suburban/OBS/OBS-IRS-KIT.html

I'll look into that too. Do you know off hand of any dana 60s or ford 9s that would be a relatively easy swap, or would any such swap require welding and narrowing and such?

I've heard mixed opinions on this. My understanding is that, I could be looking at upwards of 600hp (flywheel) with a turbo 4.8/5.3. It would be comforting to me to know I'm not sending that power though a drivetrain built to handle less than 1/2 of that. But who knows when I'll decide that is...

I really appreciate everyone sharing their experience and opinions.. I'm about 90% decided that I want to go ls swap. Specifically, I'm planning to find a cheaper 4.8/5.3 to start with. I'll mate it to my 700r4 for now. Once its running, I'll deal with any other issues that are as of yet...

Thank you for this. I’m going to look into that swap more. Looks like I can get a fairly low mileage one >100k for like 2k. I also saw this video which makes it look like a lot of fun.

I'm a fairly reasonable and rational person in most areas of my life, but this truck isnt primarily meant to be reasonable or rational. I like these trucks because that's what I like. I dont like corvettes, or really even camaros. I like gm trucks, lifted 4x4s and lowered sport trucks. I'm an...

There's not a lot of aftermarket support for that engine, right? I looked to see if I could find a carb intake and couldn't.

I could probably build a 355 assuming my bottom end is good for around 2,500 but that’s also flat tappet cam and used top end.
