Adding cruise control to 98 C1500

I can't stand not having cruise when driving on the highway. Luckily it's pretty easy to add on these trucks if yours wasn't optioned for it. Literally just swap out the turn signal stalk and add the module to the firewall, hook up the cable to the TB and you're off. Yes there are already videos...

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

And part 2. I can't repeat this enough, despite what it might seem like these aren't intended to be how to videos necessarily. It's mainly like the video version of a build thread on youtube. I'm just an amateur mechanic. Any criticism is welcome, it's how I learn.

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

Yeah I really don't know what I was thinking. I knew pitman arm pullers existed, why didn't I conclude from that that an everyday jaw puller wouldn't be up to the task? Who could say. I was pretty desperate to get it done, I would have had to drive my totalled daily to get a puller, no back...

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

Also got around to installing some of these front end components, my hand was forced by my winter daily getting ready ended. Here's the first video on doing the steering. Enjoy how childishly optimistic I was when removing the pitman arm:

I finally found a set of factory wheels and got a new set of tires. This thing is coming together

    98 C1500 ign cyl (VATS?)

I wondered about that. I've got a local guy I prefer to give business to, I'll give em a ring tomorrow. Thanks

    98 C1500 ign cyl (VATS?)

So if I want to have matching door and ign keys I'm guessing I'll have to get a whole set of door and ign cylinders from a junk yard? I know nothing about locksmithing.

    98 C1500 ign cyl (VATS?)

Well I've been doing some reading and I'm coming to the conclusion that a) passlock is prone to failure at a potentially bad time, and b) it's not even particularly robust enough to prevent theft. I have HPtuners for my GTO so maybe I'll burn a couple credits and just delete it and remove the...

    98 C1500 ign cyl (VATS?)

Tldr: what's the best route for replacing a damaged ign cyl and retaining VATS? My truck doesn't (didn't) have cruise control, which I admit has spoiled me in all my other vehicles. So I wanted to add it, super simple right? Just get a turn signal switch with the controls, and add a CC module...

    Broken shifter cable?

The cable is only a few months old though. I haven't heard about it for a few days so he must have fixed it. Apparently a tire blew out so I'm probably going to have to get new tires on these wheels even though I'm not a big fan of em. Oh well, that'll sove a problem temporarily an I can think...

    Broken shifter cable?

Apparently I'm not out of the water yet. I'm letting my niece borrow this thing while my brother works on her absolute POS Dakota. He texted me the other day saying that now the trans won't shift into P or 1. At first I didn't see how this was possible but it later occurred to me that whatever...

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

I figured I'd just take a look at the tailgate mechanism on this thing, see how it works. Before my granddad bought it the previous owner just installed these gate latches on either side to keep it shut, total pain: So I thought, why not, idk, actually fix this? All it was was the tailgate...

    IRS in a gmt400

CamarOBS? Sounded better in my head. Anyway, I'll be following how you pull this off. I'd love to put something like this under my 05 GTO since these Aussie parts are getting hard to come by.

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

I pieced together a full kit with mostly moog stuff. I think the only parts that aren't moog are SKP idler arm and bracket. New control arms, all the tie rod ends and sleeves, pitman arm, etc. Not sure when I'll get around to it, seems like a pretty big undertaking. Especially with a rusty truck.

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

My aunt and uncle were in town so I let them borrow the truck. Of course I get the call mid week that they're at the grocery and it won't start. I asked if they heard any humming when turning the key to the on position and they said nothing. Before this it was really a loud hum actually, you...

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

I don't know the first thing about them. I'm generally not a fan of any aftermarket wheels to begin with. The design isn't the worst thing I've ever seen but I don't like how they stick out past the body. I keep checking craigslist (yes that's still a thing lol) for parts trucks with OEM wheels...

    Ev's 98 GMC C1500

Finally thought to snap a pic of this heap. It's clearly very rough and beat up. But I do want to at least make it mechanically sound. I hate these stupid aftermarket wheels though, I've been looking for a set of any OEM wheels that came on these so eventually I'll get rid of these and get some...

    Broken shifter cable?

That explains it. Water is getting into the cab and under the mat and it disintegrated the conduit for the cable. I went ahead and removed the seat, took out the mat and now I'll be able to see where it's coming in next time it rains. Thanks all

    Broken shifter cable?

I finally got a chance to dive into this problem today. It is of course a broken cable, but it's not fully broken. I just disconnected it from the trans and pulled on it and it came out about a couple inches then kinda sprang back. So new shifter cable, looks pretty easy to do.

    Broken shifter cable?

But if it were completely severed then it wouldn't even be able to pull it into reverse. That's what made me think that the mount for the conduit was broken. But again, I'm sure it will all make sense once I dig into it. It's just confusing trying to imagine what's going on without having my...

    Broken shifter cable?

What I don't get is after I've shifted it into drive down at the trans, the shifter can "push" the trans linkage back into park. If the cable is broken, how can it do anything? And if the mount for the cable is broken, I would have thought that it would pull ok, but not be able to push. I'm sure...

    Broken shifter cable?

I was parked on a slight hill and went to shift into drive and as I continued to pull down (probably shouldn't have kept pulling but what else could I have done to get off that incline?) it just shifted into reverse then I was at the end of the travel of the column shifter. I had to set the...

    OBS noob

Greetings from Indianapolis. About a year ago my 98 year old granddad wanted to give me his 98 GMC C1500 LB, and I gladly took him up on it. It's pretty beat up, and rust is pretty bad on the underbody, but it's a truck. Some day I'll get my hands on a pristine K1500 LB OBS but for now this will...
