    Pulley/Belt Noise

Alright, so before I hit the parts store this morning I did some extra checking. Tensioner and pulleys, all with no weird movement, no noise. Went and grabbed a same size belt, better but wasn't right. Swapped it for the 96.7 inch belt, and its mint now. The way they wrap the belt for packaging...

    Pulley/Belt Noise

Off the top of my head I am not sure. If it does, does it need to be pointing in a specific area? I should note that the noise is lessened, to totally gone as I crank the steering wheel.

    Pulley/Belt Noise

Hey yall, so I got my 96 5.7 Suburban running, and dialed in pretty decently. My current issue is a squeak from either a pulley, or AC/PS pump. I already removed the belt and ran it, no noise. I checked all the pulleys for play/noise, including the tensioner, and that checks out. The PS pulley...

Update, she is running. I had the valve preload totally screwed up.

Looks like I am getting an RPM reading on my scanner. I guess now I'll look into the coil and icm. EDIT: Swapped out to another distributor just in case with no luck. Checked spark again, seems a bit weak, with an orange color. Plugs had fuel on them, was getting backfiring up the intake. EDIT...

Checking RPM in my reader is gonna be a pain, have to crank the entire time its booting and entering the system. Poor jump pack aint up to the task, have to drag over my other car and the good old jumper cables, hopefully don't overheat the starter...

You know I noticed it actually wasn't showing anything on the tachometer when cranking. Can a bad ground potentially cause this? EDIT: Double checked, 0 RPM on the tach when cranking. I'll need to double check the spark, see if it is actually producing anything.

Would a bad crank sensor contribute to these issues?

Thats what I thought at first, redid it twice just in case.

Update, I got all the parts in and the truck back together. To put it short, crank no start. Has good fuel pressure, has spark, spark looks a bit weak. I am going to swap in one of the old distributors I have and see if that might be the problem. Maybe the ignition control module? EDIT: I...

I had planned on trimming them anyway, but its good to know I should knock that out sooner rather than later.

So Autozone had a twenty percent off coupon, with seemingly no limit on how much it took off. Ended up putting in an order for most of the parts I needed, going with the Duralast for warranty. I thought those rockers came with polylocks, my sockets barely clear the factory style nuts. OEM coil cost pretty much the same as the aftermarkets it seems, I'll note that down. Interesting on the cam sensor, didn't even question the quality difference between OEM and aftermarket.

Howdy, I am working on a 96 GMC Suburban SLE 2WD with the 5.7 Originally I was doing a head gasket job, and started replacing parts that were old, or broke during the work. I had the heads machined, as well as the lower intake. Various issues aside over the weeks lead to me tearing out the new...
