    ID tubular heavy duty bumper

spotted this thick bumper on a 1500 z71 at the local yard. Who made this? Can it be installed on a 98 k2500? Notice the hitch receiver below and separate. Would this clear my k2500 hitch receiver? I kind of think it would look good mounted through a roll pan... Any of your own thoughts...

    Reel light location

Just a reminder that the firewall light is a different design than the TBI era light... same light design but with much larger mounting tabs. THe lights were offset from the dimples. I cannot check at this moment, but can someone review the 1996 wiring diagram and see where power comes from...

    Reel light location

I identified 4 OBSs that had the firewall reel light. On the three that were intact enough to tell, they also had a seperate underhood lights. ALL WERE 1996. There are two separate connectors coming from the main harness to each light in those 96s. Also, 3 of the 4 had the underhood box...

    Caliper Piston Leaking

well... I was going to comment on the joys of crappy calipers, such as we should be fortunate to have calipers that utilize metal pistons and not composite ones, like I have personally dealt with on fords and Chryslers.... which are prone to deforming, cracking, and seizing. Even my dad's 72...

how important are cv axles if your front differential doesn't work ?

I did the same on a powertrain-less FWD body shell I own. Someday I will fix it into the fine FWD convertible it should be... it is now sitting at year 20. $#!% These hubs are held together by the tension of the CV nut.

    Torsion screw mystery

hmm. my k2500 with oversized front tires rubs only the left front when I do the same sharp right turn. I think the bumper brace is being rubbed, and I was planning to clearance it... I see a rub mark on the outer edge of the tread... First I was planning to "flag it" with some tape to...

    Front diff play

Normal. ??? The shaft is disconnected at both ends with key off and transfer case not engaged in 4anything. It does not rotate in 2wd for example, ergo is "free spinning" when not engaged. If you have a floor shifter you would be engaged at the transfer case only engine off in 4 hi or low...

    Reel light location

I was not clear. The bulb cover does twist off to allow changing the light bulb. However, I was referring to reaching the internals under the bulb. It appears the flat back that the magnet attaches to snaps in place, and I cannot get it open, yet.

    Reel light location

Opened up. This one was junk, but I did break the handle. Oops No need to remove the reel handle to open it up, fyi. You can see the brass contact rings centered in the white reel, and the contact arms that connect to them. The grease is congealed. It is held together by two plastic...

Let’s Play “Is it motor oil or ATF?”

I did a suck pump and dump on a f150. Used a vac pump to pull all fluid I could from the dipstick. Dumped in two gallons of Valvoline Maxlife, cranked, but did not start engine with the return line from the radiator trans cooler unhooked with a couple feet of clear hose into a waste bucket...

Clearly, the wally world stuff cannot be used in my 97's G80, but it can be used in my 98's open diff. I do need to ask... if this is okay in the front diffs.

Let’s Play “Is it motor oil or ATF?”

I prefer Valvoline Maxlife, as it is intended to meet Dex Vi specs, but with the thicker Dex III viscosity. I know it has not been certified to work by GM. oh well.

Fun. Checked fluids at Walmart. Valvoline and supertech both have additive. Yuck.

    steering wheel

I took both my 97 and 98 k2500, both non-airbag trucks, and installed the newer 98(?) up leather wrapped steering wheel with smaller newer airbag so I could add SWRC. I actually would like to study a 95-96 wiring and see if I can make an active driver only airbag... I could see it possible to...

Ok, road tested with live data. running 285/70R17 at 32.71” 7.4% taller than stock Live data indicates 64 at GPS 70mph at GPS 70, the cluster indicates 74mph or 64 live data vs 74 indicated on cluster. SUMTING WRONNG HERERE. this indicates the vehicle is traveling 9.4% faster than the...

    Speedometer?

Cannot speak for a tech 2, but... I have a cheap OTC scanner that can do live data. It shows what the computer sees as speed. My green 98 k2500 is about 10 mph slower than what the cluster reads... and actual speed is in between those values. GFs HHR speedo is 1 mph faster than the computer...

Thanks so far! I forgot a question... Whom makes this locker? I saw a mention stating that it is an Eaton, but that's not proof. Also that these axles were not made by GM but by someone who also made Dodge axles... and yes, locked from a standstill.
