'96 K1500, 60/40 cloth seats: can I swap the seats onto a power seat frame/mechanism?

Very good information, bigfoot. Thank you. So you added a power seat on the PASSENGER side. Was your donor mechanism a "right side" seat to start with? This is all really helpful.

I might need to know some of that as well. Thank you both for reviving my thread. Dennis

'88/89 Glass Quads' Achilles Heel- The Adjusters!

Amazing!!!! Thank you so much for updating my original post on this problem. I would have saved many hours had I known this back then. I am certainly saving all this for future reference! Dennis

    Typical loose steering

I had loose steering on my '96 K1500. Fixed the normal stuff, (pitman arm replacement, etc.), then I looked over that Rag Joint. Soft; worn. Replaced it with a Cunningham REAL U-Joint half shaft and the whole thing is like new now. The Cunningham was the best thing I did. Not sure if you...

'96 K1500: how can I tell fuel tank capacity by physical dimensions?

My 1996 K1500 has a 6-foot box. Somewhere I thought I read that box size limited fuel tank size to the smaller tanks, (were they around 20 gallons??) Is there a way to crawl under and measure tank size and verify capacity? I would think it would be easy to visually tell the difference...

'96 K1500, 60/40 cloth seats: can I swap the seats onto a power seat frame/mechanism?

Continuing to improve my high mileage '96 GMC K1500, my seats are the cloth 60/40's with non-working electric lumbar. I don't care much about the lumbar, however, being older and having some back trouble, a full power seat would be appreciated by me and especially my spine. Not easy to find...

'96 K1500, 4WD manual shift Xfer case: Need shifting behavior feedback....

Thank you. Derek: It sounds like you only go in and out of 4WD when standing still. Doing it that way, do you get any gear bumping or teeth clashing at all? Schurkey, the linkage lube is a good tip. Thanks. I'll be curious if any others chime in on this.......

'96 K1500, 4WD manual shift Xfer case: Need shifting behavior feedback....

Just now getting last Fall's pickup purchase back on the road after being inside fixing little things all winter. I've only shifted it into 4WD once; can't remember how it felt to shift it. When I purchased the truck, my mechanic drove it and checked everything out. Said 4WD shift and...

'96 1500 ext. cab: care and feeding of the little rear, side 1/4 tip out windows???

So my high mileage 1996 K1500 came out of the back building today after off-and-on little, "fix-ups," all winter. Since I got it late last summer, I have NEVER opened the little tilt out windows on each side of it's extended cab. (Too many little things to fix before I opened a new can of...

1996 GMC K1500 - Incandescent bulb upgrade for Anzo 211140 tail lights: 3457's???

2x4, thank you very much. YOU are the poster in the past that has been so helpful...........I see you're still at it - thank goodness. I found I had the Sylvania 3156 LED replacements already here from previous purchases. Odd things ..... have little aluminum-like wings inside the glass...

1996 GMC K1500 - Incandescent bulb upgrade for Anzo 211140 tail lights: 3457's???

Forum posts here in the past have thought well of the Anzo 211140 tail light assembly replacement units. I just ordered a pair. Another well respected forum member, (can't remember who), wrote that he replaced the bulbs that came with the Anzo's with 3457 lamps. Apparently brighter, and they...

1996 GM 1500 power mirror fuse location: can anyone confirm?

Fixed! I pulled out fuse 3 again; looked OK. Put in different fuse. Both power mirrors work again. ll is well. Someotherguy, thanks. Interesting on these forums how someone caring enough to offer a simple reply, makes so much difference. I would probably have tried this, I just needed...

1996 GM 1500 power mirror fuse location: can anyone confirm?

That's about it. My power mirrors stopped working on my 1996 K1500. All fuses are good in the fuse box at the left end of the dashboard. I see no fuses underhood that appear to deal with power mirrors. Anyone know if there is ONE Specific fuse for these? It must be listed under some...

1996 GM 1500 under-hood fuse block? Is their a tutorial for how to remove those pesky fuse connectors???

Here are photos. I just want to unplug all the now useless connectors and their severed pigtails and have a fuse block I can build the way I want it. I have, indeed, tried multiple methods of, "poking," pins, icepick tips, etc., in to try to unlock the now unwanted connectors. Have yet to...

1996 GM 1500 under-hood fuse block? Is their a tutorial for how to remove those pesky fuse connectors???

Not the bulkhead connector. 1996'ish GM 1500 series 400's. I've spent about 3 hours doing search, and there are a lot of hits on how to, "de-pin," various connectors. However, I picked up a nice under hood fuse/relay block and cover from wrecking yard last week and I've spent an obscene about...

    '96 1500 external/slave factory CD player: my experience w/repair...almost a joke...

AK49, thanks. I have figured that, "jumper cable," to the remote CD was all by itself, but I've tried to pull two or three out and all seemed, "trapped," inside the dash. Am I missing something to their removal?

What stock 60/40 pwr. seats easily fit my '96 K1500? (i.e. what other years fit?)

I think you've got a good plan for your rig. After thinking it through, I'm likely staying with what I have, but will try to get any sags that bother me, .... repaired. Thank you for confirming a power seat will likely drop in my truck. If a good one shows up, I'll get it. Then save my old...

What stock 60/40 pwr. seats easily fit my '96 K1500? (i.e. what other years fit?)

94K....., thanks. Appears we each want the same thing. When younger, I spent many years behind the wheel of my '70 Impala and '72 Impala. Both with straight bench seats. Too late in the game, I realized that as those seats, "broke down," my left hip sat on more support on the seat, "end,"...

What stock 60/40 pwr. seats easily fit my '96 K1500? (i.e. what other years fit?)

Good, long bucket seat sticky here, but didn't find what i was looking for. I have a 1996 K1500 ext. cab. So it has the cloth 60/40 seat arranged with the, "bucket," section on the passenger's side, (probably because the bucket-like seat can move more to allow for rear seat entry) . I'm...

'96 1500: new door latch - reliable source?

Interesting. The build sheet for my truck indicates it originally had a wireless entry and, "fob," to run it. Long gone. Considering it age, ( GAD! - and mine too....), I've not even thought about adding an after-market keyless entry. Maybe I should???? How rough a job is that? And from where?

'96 1500: new door latch - reliable source?

Thank you. I just received a new latch. Dry, so I will lightly grease pivot points before I install. (Then hope it's not defective....) Intend to use your suggestions about how/when to connect rods to exterior door handle. (And I have a new one of these too, although the current one seems...

'96 1500: new door latch - reliable source?

I found a truck in the wrecking yard same year as mine. The padded interior panel had been taken, but the steel sheet behind that and everything else was still there. I took the whole sheet and then went to work on the rods which were in nice shape. But to get them out, I had to deal with...

'96 1500: new door latch - reliable source?

And as long as I'm bitching about all this, I've avoided dealing with the latch because it's obvious from the you tube videos on these, they are a headache to replace. I confirmed this several days ago in a wrecking yard when I fought to get one out of a truck the same year as mine. That was...

'96 1500: new door latch - reliable source?

This is helpful, thank you. I've replaced everything in my door but the latch on the door edge. I still have the original problem which is when the rods are all connected they are so tight and stiff it prevents proper function. Example: - the inside vertical slide lock/unlock tab won't...
