    TBI Engine Question

I'm assuming everything is mechanically good on your current 5.7. I don't think you'll be particularly happy TBI swapping an old carb engine. Rebuilding them for good power is generally associated with running a carburettor. Honestly, if you're committed to staying with TBI (hey, I'm not...

    1996 350 Vortec Coolant Leak

I've always re used them. Just make sure they're clean and check for leaks after you're done.

    Replacing radiator hose clamps

I run the factory style clamps until they start leaking and then put screw type hose clamps on. The trick IMO with the spring clamps is get them back in the exact same position they were before. I don't have the tool, but I've found channel locks work pretty well on the spring clamps. Either...

    A real tear jerker

Here in rusty Eastern Canada I could probably sell that back bumper for the price of the truck.

    '98 K2500 RCLB 454 NV4500 Daily/Hauler

I want that truck. RCLB have always been my favourite. You can actually fit stuff in them and they're not too long to fit through the Timmies drive through

    The fleet

Meanwhile, bought another one. 1993 K2500 eclb. 6.5 turbo, mechanical injected, 4L80e. PO broke the crank, pulled the motor and tranny and lost interest. Long story how the deal happened but she's sitting with no guts waiting for a plan. I've got a massive amount of 6.5 parts that came with...

    The fleet

Ok so two GMT400 threads was enough to keep track of. Now there's three in the collection, so everything is going into one thread. You already know this truck: And this truck: Green '94 is the daily. Needs a little work but I drive it and use it every day. The HD blew up last fall and I...

    2001 C3500HD 8.1

Don't see too many of these around. Too expensive and I can't imagine what the fuel bill would be like, but these things are beasts with the 8.1 http://www.kijiji.ca/v-other-heavy-equipment/moncton/gmc-1-tonne-dump/1189274407

    1994 GMC K2500 light duty

Thanks man. I've always liked steel rims. I've just got a thing for the stock aluminums. I seem to be one of the few lol. I just wish it was 8 bolt so I could run PYOs. By far my favourite

I got a free truck, but...

If at all possible I'd try to get a parts truck with the engine/transmission you want. That way you'll have everything you need and it will be that much easier to measure stuff/see how it fits together. I'm normally a "run what I have till it blows up" kind of guy, and those 4.3s are pretty...

    Duramax Swap

This. Duramax are cool, but Cummins is the way to go. Easier, cheaper, and a much more reliable engine.

Changed EVERYTHING, Still misfiring.... 97K1500-5.7vortec (stock)

Be very careful of the big plug with a million wires going into the top of the spider injector assembly. Go over all the little connections with a fine tooth comb. I had a problem with it once after an engine swap. Took me awhile to figure out what the problem was. This started right after the...

    Overall need help

X2. Fix IAC wiring first, then proceed. No point going any further if it's messed up IMO. I would also spend a little time going over your ground wires. Not suggesting it's your problem, but it's usually one of the first things I do when I have any kind of electrical problem.

    First Project Truck!! 1998 Z71

Solid looking truck. I've always been a regular cab guy but there's something about those ECSB Z71s. Just look sharp. Not sure what your plans are for the donor motor, but I'd suggest at the bare minimum doing the rear main seal and intake gaskets while it's out of the truck. Those are two...

    1994 GMC K2500 light duty

Thanks guys. Been away from the forum for ages. Honestly haven't done much with GMT400s other than drive mine about an hour every darned day. Did have to teach a Dodge Hemi how to yard wood....sadly didn't get pictures of that as I was too busy making fun of the truck that was 14 years newer...

    1997 Chevrolet C3500HD

Was having problems with a PMD plug connection, truck would quit, wiggle wires and would run again. Going down the road sometimes it would lose power until you wiggled plug (this is all just to get me home, for the record. New plug is in the mail). Truck started acting bad again, it was dark and...

Ypipe in the way of trans removal

If you need to change your engine, your crossover pipe needs to be removed from it somehow... Anyways, I've never had to remove the exhaust to get to the transmission on a GMT400 but on other trucks, I just drop it down and swing it out of the way. Remove it from the exhaust hangers at the back...

    TBI to Vortec head question

You're in exactly the same boat as me. I can't justify pulling a perfectly good working engine - but it's so embarrassingly gutless. I was hauling wood with it this fall...half a cord in the bed and half a cord on the trailer. I had a hard time getting up little hills. Once she pukes a rod...

    TBI to Vortec head question

Google GMPP manifold. Pretty expensive, but it's basically a bolt up manifold for running TBI and Vortec heads. There are lots of other adapter manifolds but I've personally never seen any others that accept EGR (not saying they don't exist, I just haven't seen them). You can go without EGR if...

    Detroit Diesel Swap Questions

    1997 Chevrolet C3500HD

Swapped out the harmonic balancer and front crank seal today. Easy job. Spent as much time screwing with the serpentine belt as actually changing the parts (for some reason every fan belt I put on takes about 4 tries to figure out how it goes back together. Cursing at the truck usually helps)...

    1997 Chevrolet C3500HD

Yeah about the same here if not more. I've been joking around that I bought a dump and got a free truck lol. I've seldom come across a deal this good. I was actually looking at a newer dodge with a Cummins but they wouldn't budge on the price much so I got back on kijiji and found this truck...
