Another 454 Vortec Build Thread - Documenting, Q&A, Help

Many are listed as fitting, but most are the wrong pressure. I would not order a single one unless the pressure is listed in the description so you know it's the proper one. I ordered 3 or 4 before i found the proper one.

Be careful on what FPR you order. Several wrong ones will fit, but only a few have the proper pressure and i can not remember the number of the proper one.

The house batteries with run a 2000w Renology inverter, 12v fridge/freezer, LED lights, 12v LED outdoor lights. Few other things i have not thought...

Weird question about a bypass filter

My buddy's dad had a Franz filter on a Toyota motor home with 230K. I was there one day when they were changing the oil and filters. I remember he had about 4k since the last change. The old oil still looked new. The Franz filter used toilet paper roll for the filter medium. When it was taken...

Finally did some electrical work today. Before started i check the voltage at the battery (14.5v) running at idle. Also checked at a cigarette lighter 13.3v at the same time. Started by replacing the battery with a new top post AGM. I also replaced the main fuse box power cable under the hood...

    1999 Suburban 7.4 engine swap to 502

From what i remember when i was researching you will need to have the thickness of the reluctor machined off the rear of the dampener. Something like .060? Measure yours and you will know for sure. You might also need a new timing chain because only a single roller will fit under the vortec...

    GOT a van!

Finally, got the rear differential rebuilt today. New ring and pinion, bearings. Still noisy though around 40 to 55mph. Way better than it was for sure. Maybe it will quiet down after it's ran a while? Super nice guy. Showed me pictures of the pattern after it was done and from the pics it...

    GOT a van!

Got the old cap rotor changed today and it was not pretty. Surprised i had no misfires after see the inside. I wanted to see what the phasing thing was all about so i hogged out a couple holes in the old cap and put it back on. From what i could tell it looked like the spark was jumping less...

    GOT a van!

I did not take a pic of the other side of the ecu circuit board but it was way worse than the top? (posted pic). It was bridged all over the place with that white fluffy stuff and it had a little of the green crusties going on. I certainly don't mind posting wins/fails as thats some of why we...

    GOT a van!

Finally got the defrost fixed now that winter is almost over. Turned out to be a bad vacuum actuator. PITA to get to. Had to remove the passenger seat to have enough room to work under the dash but, Still way easier than removing a dash to replace blend doors on a PU. Got the rear wheel...

Anyone ever change out a crank position sensor?

The easiest way i found to measure the depth was with a micrometer. Measure from the timing cover where the CPS goes into it and make sure the reluctor is on one of the high points. It's easy to measure the CPS insertable length, add a little math and you have the clearance, or lack of.

@Supercharged111 I actually have a set of 1990 Chevy Suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 axles and don't think the thought has not crossed my mind:) Most of the work i could do myself and have the ability to collect up the parts i would need. Problem is i don't know what exact parts i would need.

    GOT a van!

Because where i go camping and playing in the woods i need more ground clearance. Actually im kinda worried about having a 2wd van but just no way to afford a 4wd high top van for camping so lifted 2wd high top will have to do.

    GOT a van!

One of the problems i have with this van is, It sits to low and i need to raise it. Researching around and looking at Spindle lifts for a 1500 express van i can find a 4in lift listed from Trekline motorsports for $350. Looking at GM at the spindle part number GM 18060573. It shows to...
