    K2500 Smiles and tribulations

I finally got the the new to me 1996 K2500 (95k miles, 5.7, 4l80e) plated and got some miles on her. So far I am 100 percent pleased with the truck even though it took some work to get here. It needed a flex plate and starter, cracked block at starter bolts repaired, I gave it a full tune up...

    Ram 3500 wheels on k2500

Would there be any issues running dodge 3500 wheels, 17x7.5 on my 1996 8 lug SF k2500?? I'd like to get into a 17" wheel for better tire selection. These are the wheels in question

Cracked 5.7 block at Starter Bolts

I mig’d it, everything is working fine. Used pre and post heat, this is not my first rodeo. Brazing and re-drilling would have added a **** ton more time and money.

Motor is back in, I could have repaired the crack in frame but it needed a new flex plate. Both the old starter and flexplate are chewed up. I went at it pretty hard today, didn’t take many pictures. I’ll have it buttoned up tomorrow, still waiting on a new starter and I need exhaust manifold...

Cracked 5.7 block at Starter Bolts

New parts are rolling in and the motor is almost ready to be removed. A bit easier working under the hood than my old 6.0 powerstroke, not as easy as my old ram 360 gasser.

Cracked 5.7 block at Starter Bolts

Flywheel is chewed up in spots, stock 5.7, starter is OEM direct drive. I am going to MIG weld it with pre and post heat. The entire ear is broken off, I will grind a Vee and pulse. I will post my results, tomorrow or Sunday. I am putting in a new flex plate so the motor is coming out. Good times.

Did you use any preheat or post heat? I’ve welded cast but normally I’ll preheat to 400-600f, then cool slowly.

Cracked 5.7 block at Starter Bolts

New to me 1996 k2500 with the 5.7 and 4l80, 95k miles, runs mint, starts like crap. So I went to investigate why the starter grinds and sometimes binds up and I find the infamous cracked block, no front support on the starter. So what is the preferred repair?? It looks like a JB weld repair was...
