    $800 - 89 K1500 Silverado - negleted to useful

Getting on the passenger side of the truck when I locked it was getting old. So, I decided to tackle fixing the door lock on the driver side. I ended up reconnecting the lock cylinder and replacing the lock actuator. Somehow, the rod connected to the cylinder became unattached. But, everything...

I swapped in a "better" cluster and the speed was wrong. I just learned that it is possible to replace 7 green fuses in the instrument cluster's circuit board with DIP switches. This allows the speedometer to be calibrated to your rear end and tire size. This is old news to some, but it was new...

My old rusted fuel tank was leaking, So I decided to replace it along with a pump and hangar assembly. I drove around on Empty for weeks. If there was only a few gallons in the tank, it didn't leak. If feels good to not have to worry about and not park in the back lot at work. And, I documented...

I know right. I want to enjoy a few tanks of gas at least. I keep a mileage log of all my cars and a few times it has warned me of issues early. I have had this truck over a year and have been estimating mpg based on old EPA numbers.

Mine had a mind of their own two. It was crazy. This is a good way to have the ability to use the new boards.

Thanks man. I don't know about the wheels/hubs. I'm sure it's the original setup though. I guess I have a some research to do. I bet I could find the answer on this forum.

I'm also thinking about taking off the rubber bumpers on front of the bumper. I think the truck will look a lot cleaner that way.

I finally got the new speedometer gear in. And now, the trip meter isn't working. It's better than before and I can finally get an idea on gas mileage. I'm not going to go back into it until I get some new panels. My current ones are so old and brittle I get nervous every time I work on it.

I got it at NAPA. It seems to be ok. The old one had sat unused for a long time and parts were seized/rusted together. I have not had any issues with the new one.

I finally got around to fixing the broken odometer. It turned out to be gear connected to the "number tumbler". A less cracked gear from a junkyard cluster worked for a day. I will install the new gear I ordered in the coming weeks. For the interested, I documented what I it in a video.

I have had a couple say that to me. The original colors were cool. The painter had left over paint from a previous job. So I saved a bit of money.

I got tired of fuel splashing every time I filled up so I investigated the problem. What I thought was a filler neck issue turned out being a vent tube issue. It was a more involved process than it needed to be. But, when you have a tight workspace, you do what you have to do.

My windshield wipers had a mind of their own. I took it apart and found a broken trace. During my research, I learned that the early GMT400s have a different style pulse board than the later years. So, I decided to install the newer style wiper pulse board. At this point the quarantine was...

The main reason I got a regular cab short bed was that my Extended cab C2500 was tool long for my new driveway. I also also got it painted to make it more presentable in my new neighborhood. The paint made the truck look better than it actually is.

There were several odds and ends that needed to be addressed. I intended to put this truck to work. The tailgate latch had seized. So, I put a new one on.
