    Manual Swap w/ Speedometer?

Well I was rummaging around at the local salvage yard today and found a dirt cheap 454, so I might need the nv4500 to handle the torque.

    Manual Swap w/ Speedometer?

I've got a 1991 C1500 reg cab truck that I am currently doing body/paint for, I was thinking about refreshing the drivetrain while I already was working on it. It's got 200,000 miles on the original 305 motor and 700r4 transmission, so I won't feel too guilty about taking it apart. I want to...

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

I’ve got a 1991 c1500 with a high mileage 305 and was considering a 350 replacement engine. Will my pcm be compatible with the increase in cubic inches? I have a set of 350 tbi injectors I intend to use, but otherwise I’m not sure what would need replacement.

    Code 44 91 C1500

Would be great, I've been trying to figure it out for some time. I do have a spare ignition coil and ICM I could try. Maybe there will be a difference there. However, everything on my ignition system was replaced just a couple months ago.

    Code 44 91 C1500

I’m using the reddevilriver scan tool with tunerpro. All of my sensor data seems pretty normal. Fuel trims in closed loop are hanging around 128. My cap, rotor, and plugs, were replaced over the summer. I haven’t tested the coil with a spark tester but my spark seems to be pretty strong. My...

    Code 44 91 C1500

I’m been having trouble getting my truck to run correctly. I have an idle surge and it starts rough on cold mornings. I occasionally get code 44 lean exhaust. My fuel pump, fuel filter, O2 sensor, and many other parts are less than a year old. It holds perfect vacuum according to a diagnostic...

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Alright, after taking the resistor out and resetting the IAC yet again, my idle seems to be perfect, KC are next to nothing, engine is pulling strong as ever. The distributor seemed to be the culprit of all my idle issues. Thanks to everyone who helped out and gave me advice.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I always had one KC when starting. I will pull the resistor and see if that was a fluke, my exhaust is mounted rock solid So that shouldn’t be an issue. I can’t hear an audible knock or or anything out of the ordinary.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Knock counts are way high mine are 0. When it see knock it pulls timing. Tps voltage at idle should be .50 to .60 you might double check that also. Strangely it runs way better without the ALDL cable plugged in, why could that be? Possibly the wrong cable for my ECM or the service mode messing...

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I just noticed my TPS % shows 30% with no input and 220% at WOT. Hmmmm My idle also seems to rise whenever I plug in the ALDL cable.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Still having issues and I’ve been messing with the IAC more, but I took a 20 minutes drive through stop and go traffic and highway. Doubled checked my base timing (0°). And my datalogging showed this: TPS Voltage @ idle: in the .55 to .59 depending on set screw adjustment IAC position @ idle in...

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Sure enough, one of the magnets was badly damaged, I swapped my distributor last night and idle quality is definitely improved, I will take a closer look tonight and report my findings.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

No dice with the gasket change, I don’t know how old this distributor is but it is probably an older unit.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Big update: Actually found something that would affect my idle. I noticed the top of my injector pod was saturated in fuel, meaning the gasket isn’t holding a seal. I will replace the gaskets and report the results.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

When I got my IAC position near 0, the idle was way too high.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

It would try to idle down but it would “cough” and idle back up. I’m unsure that I will be able to diagnose this on my own. Is anybody competent enough to read my datalogging? I am going to run compression tests on each of my cylinders tonight and see where that puts me too.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I messed with the IAC for an hour or so and had no luck. Went through the reset minimum idle procedure a few times. I found that my truck was having a lot of trouble idling below 600 rpm with the IAC unplugged. No matter where I set the screw, it would not idle lower than 850ish rpm with...

Okay, I will try to mess with it tonight if I get the time. Thanks again.

So I need to tighten my screw? Would that adversely affect my idle speed?

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Thanks for the clarification. How could I figure out the commanded speed? I believe my IAC counts are high while sitting in park. Over 20 all of the time.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I'm not familiar with the term commanded idle speed. Is that what is set by the screw with the IAC unplugged?

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I did run a vacuum gauge after replacing all my lines, had a reading of 21 in Hg with no change even when rough idle was occurring. I also noticed in my datalogging that my idle is a bit high, it tends to hover around 825-875 rpm.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

Still haven’t found the issue but I tried unplugging the O2 again and noticed it does idle much better while in open loop. Still noticed the roughness every once in a while but I‘m thinking it has to be O2/fuel related.

    Diagnosing Rough Idle Hell

I haven’t performed a compression test but that would be a good one to know. All of the plugs had identical regular wear with no signs of running rich. They read possibly slightly lean. Honestly they were in good shape but I changed them anyway. Maybe had 15,000 miles on them. I’m not sure if O2...
