    1994.5 C3000 frankentruck

If you replace the harness, you're eliminating a bunch of good solder joints, and introducing new pins and connectors (connections) to replace ones that are working fine. Just something to consider.

14 bolt FF service - brakes and lube job - a couple questions

I know you said you may not need to pull the hubs, but for future reference, OEM Tools number 27046 is the correct socket with six tabs. Autozone carries these. They rent or sell them for $13. If you're buying to keep, make sure it's a new one that hasn't been beat up as a rental.

    Ruptured Metal Brake Line

Yes. I blew a line like this last year, ended up replacing all of them. Mine was in approximately the same spot as yours, but not blocked by the gas tank.

x2 on the welds, and very cool project overall. If you did a good job on all the connections when marrying those harnesses, I don't know if I'd be pulling a perfectly good harness out and making a new one from scratch...but hey, it's something to pass the time.

No restraint! You came out ahead on that deal. Time to dig in ha ha. Awesome truck, post some more pictures.

You're not wrong HotWheels, but the modern vehicles depend so much more on electronics, which can fail and potentially become unavailable, where the older, more mechanical ones can potentially continue to be serviced. It's all relative, of course, and I'm a late adopter of everything, so maybe...

You are correct, I meant L03 305, thank you.

    Front end rebuild question/suggestions

Back when mine was a daily driver, I had all the work done on it at a shop too. Reputable shop, and they use all Delco or Moog parts. I had major front end work done at one point, maybe not as extensive as what you had, and I remember having the same reaction. "This doesn't feel as precise as...

    Vortec 2200 swap?

I would have suggested it, but my daily driver is a Trailblazer. Great motor and good match for the Trailblazer platform, but it gets about 14 MPG and makes less torque than an L05 305. (Correction: L03 305, thanks Peter)

    Vortec 2200 swap?

I was thinking about what to write, when this comment popped up. I agree. The 4 cylinder idea, is really bad in my opinion, for all the reasons people have already stated. Even a 4.3...it's going to have significantly less power, and mileage is not going to suddenly be great. (I had a couple...

    Does 2500 Suburban Feel Heavy

There would be SOME difference, I doubt a whole ton. I've gotten anywhere between 9 and 13 with my TBI 454, but it's usually 10-11. I had an 8100 K2500 for a while. This got about 8 MPG under similar conditions to the Suburban's 10.

    Does 2500 Suburban Feel Heavy

I say go with the 2500. I don't have GMT400 1500 experience, but I can't see any downside to the 2500, other than reduced fuel economy if that matters to you. It doesn't to me. I bought mine specifically for the heavy-duty underpinnings. Daily drove it for 5 years, including in the city...

    No response

It's an endless cycle, as long as those of us who know "less" keep wrenching and learning from those who know "more". Think about it, the first wrench was probably turned on a GMT400 in 1988. A guy who was 60 years old then would be 95 today. And yet today, somewhere, an 18 year old also...

What to look for 1998 suburban

It's a nice looking truck, I'd definitely do it. Don't let it get away. The way I see it, it's a Chevy, it will last, and fixing it is relatively cheap. Even transmission, which I used to worry about...that's a couple months of car payments. Unless the frame is rotted, or unless they're...

    Headliner

Recovering a headliner is one of the easiest and most satisfying projects you can do. You take the old board out. It's brittle fiberglass most likely, so just be careful removing it. Gotta take out all of the trim around it, then any components that go through it, like dome light. Pull off...

    Brake lines

What kind of problems did you have with them? Curious for future reference. Speaking just from my experience, I've gotten 5 sets of lines from Inline Tube, starting around 2007 and as recently as 2022. Can't remember the exact breakdown...I think one full set for a restoration project, three...

    Howdy from South Louisiana

The OP admits he doesn’t have formal auto-tech “training”, but he’s going to give working on his truck a shot anyway. (I'm guessing he works in a different field, and the truck is more or less a hobby for him?) At any rate, I applaud the enthusiasm.

    Daily truck pics

They sure do. It's the bane of us car/truck folks' existence up here. Mine came from California and I drove it daily for 5 years before retiring it to nice weather only. A couple more years and it would have started turning to Swiss cheese. Generally, there is nothing old and nice in the...

    95 K1500 complete rebuild

Just my two cents... If you've taken a vehicle apart to this degree, you kind of want to do everything. Doesn't make sense to put it all back together with old stuff, and then get nickel and dimed with every little component breaking later on.

Here we go! 99 GMC K2500 Suburban

This is similar to how my busted brake line project went. One little pinhole...led to replacing every single brake component except hydroboost and ABS module. And this was not "may-as-wells", this was "part A is bad, connects to part B which is also bad, connects to part C, etc." A couple...

    Wheels and Hubcaps

I always rattle can wheels, mainly for ease of touch-up. The price is also hard to beat. I've had mixed experiences with powder coating in general. Sometimes it seems pretty impervious. Other times, it seems to not hold up as well, and then comes off in sheets. Paint is easily redone at...

Oil pressure light on, pressure ok

I don't know, I was aware of the 6- and 5-cylinders, never heard of a 4. It's my opinion that overall, the 6-cylinder is a pretty excellent engine. It's about the latest vehicle I've experienced that still feels like a REAL vehicle, rather than an alien spacecraft. Anyway, this was my old...
