    Bluetooth OBD2 adapter

With my 99 Suburban, I daily a OBDLink MX+ and real time monitor with the the android app 'Torque'. it gets me Intake Air, and Coolant Temps from normal PIDS and Trans temp from extended GM specific PIDS. I only had to pay for the app and got the extended PIDS for free. When pulling codes, it...

Newbie with a quick PassLock question

If the ECU has Passlock tuned out and the EVO bypass was installed, is there any reason to keep the Passlock/EVO module installed in the dash. I'm thinking of using that mount point for a small 12V to 24V inverter.

Newbie with a quick PassLock question

1999 5.7 Burb here as well, I had a local tuner shop get rid of the ECM Passlock check with HP Tuners for similar reasons. The tune cost me $225 USD. but said any future tune would be $50 as they would have my VIN in their HP Tuner system. Good thing to as I had to replace the ignition...

Looking on how to Wire up sequential “turn signal” Tow Mirrors and make them function?

If you only want turn and not stop/park, the mirror signals lamps should tap into the front left and right turn signals (LT BLU and DK BLU), and not the left and right rear signals (YEL and DK GRN), as the rears' are tied into the brake signal in the Multifunction Switch. For the 96+, late...

Looking for Lug torque specs for 92-99 suburban 2wd ( larger wheels 20s )

99 suburban's torque spec for the tire lugs is a bit annoying to state. The 1999 service manual, Pg. 3-111, lists a torque of 125 [ft-lb] (175 [N-m]). However the 1999 Suburban owners manual, Pg. 6-67, lists a torque of 140 [lb-ft] (190 [N-m]) As there are known to be errors in the service...

Door Hinge Pins & Bushings, Cunningham Machine vs. New Greaseable GM?

Dorman and LMC both had barn door hinge pins and bushings. I picked up a set of barn door pins and bushings from LMC and was not impressed with the bushings. 1) they don't come as a pair. 2) they are the split kind rather than full flange. The pins are fine, but not C-Clip at the...

    The Stupid Lift Questions Thread

1999 K1500 Suburban, 5.7L, with GF T-bars and 4/1 Leaves. Stupid questions: 1. If I swap from 4/1 (2200 lb) to 5/1 (2900 lb) leaves, what is the expected unladen lift as measured from the rear axle? 2. Can I level that much lift by cranking the GF (5826 Max Torque) T-Bar keys or would it be...

Window doesnt roll up or down

Does it work intermittently or not at all? For some reason on my 1999 K1500 Suburban the front driver window doesn't work if it is rolled all the way up and it is hot. If it is roll it down even the smallest amount or I let it cool off, it works again, no idea why.

    Replacement '96+ Ashtray Mounting Clips

Pulled the knee board out of my Suburban to get at the one remaining good clip and modeled it up. Attached are links to the OEM clip as well as a modified version that can be printed flat such that layers aren't in the plane of most stress. Both can be printed via FDM with a .25mm nozzle, but...

Tips on installing a Brake Controller in a OBS (1999 Suburban)

Excellent write-up. It will help me when i do it for my own 99 Burb. Did you use a standard .25 in female blade terminal to connect to the NAT's F6 pin on the Convenience Center or did you use some other connector? Which controller did you go with and where did you install it?

    Trailer Hitch Question

Advice from someone who deals with bolted joints as part of their job. Hardware: SAE Grade 8 | Metric Class 10.9 or better hardware. Coating: 1. Chromate on Cadmium preferable but near-impossible to get for metric. 2. Chromate on Zinc is an okay substitute and should be easy to...

Dash Air Bag Light is On, But no Error Code

1999 Suburban, K1500, 5.7L LT Original driver and passenger airbags. SIR wiring has never been touched. About a month ago the 'Air Bag' light on my dash stayed on after starting it up. I used a Foxwell NT630 to read the SIR module. (I had purchased it for ABS Bleed) Oddly. no current or...

    Rust belt people

My Suburban spent 20 years in South Dakota. I swear damn near every bolt on the underside is seized or was before I started doing underbody work on it after moving to the south. Thankfully, other than a bit of body rot near the exhaust, the rust is only surface deep and the frame is still...

    Best trailer brakes?

Do you follow a guide for installing and wiring Redarcs to a GMT400? I've been meaning to install a Elite V2 for a while now but have been questioning the best place under the dash to mount the controller and best place to tap into the brake wire.

Any luck with “narrow” grease gun fittings?

R&R'd all my U-Joints with Spicer 5-795X's, no more (improperly) greasing u-joints for me. Cleaned up and number from vehicle use, front to back. While 2 (Front Prop to T-Case) is properly buggered; 1,3, and 4 are also NFG as well. They have scoring where the needles dug into the crossbar...

Any luck with “narrow” grease gun fittings?

Well, 7 Youtube videos and 3 hours later I know a whole lot more to universal joints circa 2014. WeberAuto put together a VERY comprehensive playlist on the subject. What I came away with: 1) Non-greaseable are better than greaseable. This is not because of crossbar strength, but due to bearing...

    Better gas mileage and performance.

1999 K1500 Suburban 5.7L, 3.73 on P245/75R16 Tires. Lost all milage data prior to 2013 at 151k miles. 10 years and 60k miles later and I have tracked every fill-up. Best: 21.5 [mpg] (Downhill, interstate, tailwind) Worst: 10.9 [mpg] (Winter, city, trailer and lots of idling) Average: 13.9±2.2...

Any luck with “narrow” grease gun fittings?

Do the U-joints without zerks (DANA Spicers in particular) need to be greased prior to install? I have seen conflicting information on if out of the box they are: 1) Not greased at all. 2) grease just a little bit for corrosion protection. 3) fully greased and ready for install.

EVO Delete Possible Without Removing Pump?

Wouldn't a crowsfoot or open end wrench be able to get to the nut of the solenoid? Been digging some more to try to find out what the EVO valve looks like off the pump. Found a photo of it next to the EVO Delete U-pipe. Looks like a crowsfoot would easily go around it. In this other photo I...

EVO Delete Possible Without Removing Pump?

BLUF: "Can an EVO Delete be done without removing Power Steering Pump?" "If so, anyone have the documentation on how to do so?" Background: Got a leaky Power Steering Pump to Gearbox Assembly hose (GM 26056831). The leak appears to be cause by rubbing against Gearbox Assembly as seen...
