Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Sorry, I quoted the scan tool verbatim. It is what the ECU has the advance set at, varied from 22.5-23 degrees at an idle. Disconnecting the EGR just gave me the Service Engine light, didn't help with the pinging at all.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Ok I was able to hook up a scan tool and the fuel trim bank 1 is -1.6%, and bank 2 is 0.8%. Initial timing for cylinder 1 was 22.5-23 degrees. No DTCs.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Yeah mine grumbles in reverse now as well at like 550-600 rpm. However this is definitely pinging.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Yes it used to have the cast manifolds, moved over to headers. I'll try unplugging the EGR and see what it does, good idea.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Only thing I can think of is somehow the EGR got messed up since I had to take the whole tube off and screw it off the manifold out of the truck. I'll look over all the connectors again but I think they're all good.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Yeah I looked at it and it seemed fine.

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Ok, the fuel pressure is 56-58 psi with the engine off and 50 when running. The connection at the knock sensor seemed fine, no visible damage and it was hooked up. I'll be able to use the scan tool later this evening. A little more background on the issue, more RPM makes it ping less per how...

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Not sure what the fuel pressure is, is there a Schrader valve somewhere where I can hook up? I wouldn't imagine it would suddenly decide to be less but I guess it is possible. I'll use a scan tool tomorrow and do some digging. Where is the knock sensor at so I can check?

Vortec 5700 Ping after computer reset?

Hi, I have a 1998 GMC K2500 with the Vortec 5700. After putting some Summit Racing headers on my truck the engine will ping under anything but the gentlest throttle. I have never heard the truck ping before in my years of driving it, so I am confused why it would start now. The battery was...

    Engine Surging w/ AC on

I'll try those things when it's not raining later this week, thanks.

    Engine Surging w/ AC on

Hello all, I have come across an issue with my truck (1998 K2500 Vortec 5700 4L80E). When stopped in Drive with the AC or defrost (since both run the compressor) the engine will surge. Sometimes it is not by much, other times it will go up to around 850 and try to move a bit. Last week it...

    Increased Cranking Time/Changed Cold Idle

My assumption was that the higher idle is from the cold weather package the truck has, RPO code V10, giving it a higher idle or something like that. It was originally a fleet vehicle from Canada.

    Increased Cranking Time/Changed Cold Idle

Thank you, I will try checking those various things with an OBD reader, though I'm not sure if the one my buddy has reads the TPS. Having said that, do you know where I could get an OBD reader that view all of that without breaking the bank? Would one just use throttle body cleaner for cleaning...

    Increased Cranking Time/Changed Cold Idle

I have a buddy with an OBD reader, and so I was going to check the fuel pressure in a couple days. The CEL is not on. What I meant with the idle thing is that the 'peak' RPM right after starting has gone down. When the engine is first started it will go up in RPM then go down to an idle. The...

    Increased Cranking Time/Changed Cold Idle

My bad, I should have specified. I meant when it first starts it goes up to that rpm, then goes down. When hot it goes down to about 650, but when it's cold it will gradually go down as it warms up. So it spikes.

    Increased Cranking Time/Changed Cold Idle

Hi all, I have a 1998 GMC K2500 with the Vortec 5700 which the previous owner rebuilt about 65k miles ago. About a month ago I noticed that it took a bit longer to start than usual (typically less than a second even when cold), and today it was the worst -- it took about 3 seconds of cranking to...
