towing with my lowered crew cab

I'll admit, I'm a mechanical engineer and very seldom do these calculations anymore. I totally agree with the strength calcs above. I was just picturing in my head the loads on the beam and the stresses. Then opened my mouth without thinking the whole thing through. Ultimately, my point was...

towing with my lowered crew cab

Just for a little more info: with the way the stresses are generally applied to the truck's frame with a bumper pull trailer, the strength of the frame is proportional to the cross section. So, if you are cutting out 1/2 the height of the frame and doubling the thickness with the brace, you are...

    Ride difference between18”, 20” and 22” on 33” off-road A/T tires?

My pick would be pics 2,4,6. 4 being the best. I would go with 18's if possible. My 99 had the black 20's on it when I bought it. They ride too rough even with a 33.5" tire. The potholes here in CA are worse than anything I remember in NE. For that reason I plan to sell them and get 17 or 18 in...

1998 gmc c1500 rear end options

Forgot they had 6 lug 14 bolts. I would imagine it has larger tubes, so grab the plates and u-bolts. U-joint is probably larger too, so driveshaft mod. Good thing is it seems like almost all 14 bolts have the G80 locker and 3.73 or 4.10 gear. So that would be a relatively inexpensive, albeit...

1998 gmc c1500 rear end options

Just browsing and saw there were no replies to this. 400-450 RWP is a pretty stout small block unless you are using boost. A well built NA 350 will probably net you 300-350 at the wheels. Honestly, with a NA 5.7 in a truck I would not worry about it. Unless you plan on hitting the drag strip...

    Transmission goes boom.

Changing the stall speed can help with acceleration. A "loose" converter changes the angles of the blades and allows a higher engine speed before it will start to move the car. This will help your engine reach max torque faster. An engine with a "big" cam will make max torque at higher RPM...

    Transmission goes boom.

True, but if you're mainly driving around town where it's not locking up, or a lot of stop and go, it will be a problem.

    Transmission goes boom.

Yes. It's good for a daily driver unless you do some HEAVY towing. It will put your RPM's into the peak torque quicker, but will build more heat with a heavy load. Light towing of a utility trailer or average boat would be ok.

    Transmission goes boom.

Agreed. I also used he 4.3 converter. Stalls at 26-2700 behind my big block. Probably 3-400 lower behind small block. But under light throttle it feels like stock, so you're not always running around at 2500 rpm.

    Transmission goes boom.

Don't worry about the 4L60. I have a 700R4 similarly built that was intended to go behind a small block. But I came across a good deal on a 454 and went with it, expecting to grenade the 700 and switch to a T56. Nearly 20 years later the 700 is still going. That's in a 67 C10 with 500 ft/lbs, a...

    split bench

Can anyone tell me if the seat cover on a front split bench is the same as the rear split bench? I need a new cover for my leather rear seat, but all I find is listings for front. The front split bench cover looks just like the rear, but I have buckets in the front, so I can make any measurements.

    454 (7.4L) swap / repair options - 1999 Suburban K2500

I've thought of doing what you are. Have you done it already and got it running? How does it work?

I need these wheels and tires

Those are good looking wheels. His old tires in that post, 285/75-16 fit with no lift, even on a half ton. I had them on my '95 Z71 back in the day. His new ones look like they may be 305 or 315. About 1-2 inches taller. They won't fit without lift or fender trimming.
