    Oil Question

I agree with Schurkey, but wanted to add that Mobil 1 is also a synthetic, so only two oils actually synthetic. Apparently other oil companies sued someone and gained the right to call their oils "synthetic." They are super refined oils that don't do much more than Havoline 30 used to do. I...

    Keep Manifolds or get shorties?

Kept having trouble with cracking manifolds due to travel trailer towing, after 3 replacements bought JBA shorties, no more cracking. Price was right and fit was perfect. Noticed some increase in power but not much. Didn't want to go long tube as connecting to exhaust pipes would have been...

    Travel Trailer help

To add to this, I rarely look at supposed weight ratings. I towed a 25 foot TT all over the Western USA with a 3500 lb 1965 Chevy Van half ton. Installed a 292 inline 6 with a built Th350, Clifford headers, Weber 2 bbl, HEI, etc. That thing pulled that TT up and over the Cascades, Rocky...

    Travel Trailer help

Bought the K1500 about 6 years ago to tow travel trailers. 3.73, 350, 4L60e. Had 120,000 on it, one owner, always garaged, constant oil changes, motor had original plugs and wires. Tuned it up, new plugs etc. Bought a 28 ft Trail Cruiser a light weight trailer, 5,000 lbs dry. Probably 5500...

1994 K1500 Suburban is now 30 years old.

Here in Washington, once your vehicle turns 30, you can register it as an antique. I save all of my old plates so I had a couple from 1994 off of our old '90 Corsica. So, on Jan 2nd, went down to the courthouse and registered it as an antique. It cost about $50 to do that and I don't have to...

    Should I swap a 383?

Yes. Installed a remanufactured 383 with roller cam in my 94 k1500. Stock 350 in good condition wouldn't pull mountain passes very well. Mainly against the wind on slight uphills in Nevada-Arizona-Utah I'd have to run in 2nd all day. Gas mileage wasn't good. With 383, no problem. No...

    Towing Long Distance

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Been towing a 5500 lb travel trailer since I bought the 1994 k1500 Suburban in 2016. Did install a 383 couple of years ago but did tow for a few years with the 350, gutless but got the job done. Just got back from 3000 mile trip from Washington to southern...

    Broken rear exhaust manifold bolt

When I bought my 94 k1500 about 6 years ago it had 2 broken bolt heads on both manifolds, was told that's normal with a 350. Dinked around with drilling etc. finally took it to my mechanic to remove the bolts, turns out the manifolds were also cracked. Bought a couple of new manifolds from...

Aluminum rims corroding, leaking air, help needed

('94 k1500). I had to replace one of my wheels as it was leaking around the valve stem. Les Schwab said there was no way to fix it. Found a refurbished stock wheel on amazon or ebay, can't remember which. So it happens with age. Also had to replace all wheels on my 1965 Chevy Van a few years...

    Hi/Lo beam situation

This might be an appropriate thread to ask if there is a way to have all four headlites on at the same time when switching to high beams?

    Headers or iron manifolds?

Looks like there have been many posts on this subject, but I don't have time to read them all so this response may be redundant, but I think its relevant. I installed JBA shorty headers some time ago, mainly because I kept cracking the iron ones. I was told I was doing that because I was...

    Air Intake Duct

As such I run a 3" duct to the driver's side of the air cleaner. I cut into it with an oval hole and fit the ribbed adaptor from the other side, then run a 3" ribbed hose down into the fender well for a second cold air intake. Cut hole in splash guard. I have been concerned about the...

    Battery DEAD, DEAD !!!

Had that happen to my k1500. Just tightened the negative bolt. I switched to those bolts that stick out a ways so you can jump it easily, also easier to tighten up, can get a wrench on it.

    1994 GMC K1500 Speedometer Problems - Help??

I have a problem with the temperature guage, it reads real low. Mechanic says I need and new instrument panel. Also, we're half way thru trip from Washington to Arizona, and the tach needle started jumping a little bit. But have to just keep driving (94 K1500, 189,000 miles, new 383).

    No power at 7000 feet

Thanks guys. Thot so. nice to have confirmation. I do have 2 cold air intakes. Got rid of the orignal intake box and hose. Ran a 4" smooth aluminum drier duct directly from the fender to the air cleaner. Wrapped it in insulation so it wouldn't get too hot. Took out all the stuff that was...

    No power at 7000 feet

Right now towing (94 k1500) from way up in Blaine WA to Flagsaff AZ. Been many mountain passes and up and down hills. So going from sea level to 7000 feet. as we climed the 383 began losing power and much lower gas mileage, which I know happens. In the old days (w/carburetor) we would just...

94 gmc grille conversion to chevy grill

The GMC grille is sooo much cooler, but I don't blame you for wanting to make the truck more stock.

    Truck prayers needed.

If the stubborn bolt was the distributor holddown bolt, I couldn't get it loose either. Took it to a good mechcanic and they got it off. Didn't break anything. Probably had to do that I didn't have the right tools. I tried for weeks.

    What’s the wire go to?

Just replaced one of those, goes to the A/C can looking thing on the firewall on the passenger side. (don't know what that thing is called). I had pulled it loose to fix something, and it fell onto the headers and melted. Luckily, Amazon carries them.

Guage hookup to ignition power 94 k1500

Just can't find a place to hook up the positive lead of my trans temp guage. Directions say to hook up to an ignition switch location, can't find such location or where it might be. I have been reading electrical diagrams in Chilton's and the main Service Manuals. Not sure where the modules...

    The Stupid Electronics Questions Thread

94 k1500, I installed an Autometer trans temp gauge a while back and it seemed to work good for a while. Put a bung in the trans pan. Now at night, when I turn up the panel guage lights (with wheel) the needle also rises. The power wire is simesed with the wire going into the plug labled as...

    383 not getting enough air

Just seeing this now, so I hope its not to late to reply. Before I installed the 383, the first thing I did when I bought the 94 350 Burb was rip out the restrictive air box and put a 4'"smooth dryer duct directly from the fender inlet to the air cleaner. Got rid of the choke flat and anything...

    Stock 4l80e power

Got a 94 GMC Suburban with replacement 383 that tows 28' travel trailer, and the 4L60e has never given me any trouble, Just had the fluid flushed and it shifts much better now. I'm in the Pacific NW with many mountain passes that I climb all the time (186,000 miles)

    Little bit of bass

Wh4... excellent work. I play bass and have been building bass enclosures since 1965. Always plywood, didn't have MDF back then. Of course mine were rather large (2' x 3') to handle 15" JBL speakers. Always used two speakers, I think I would have blown the back out of a MDF cabinet. I just...
