    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Oh ya. Roughly 24". I'm also building a standard size Vanagon into a 4x4. I'll get a suburban frame, cut out center section, use that section in stretched Vanagon. Should work out well.

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Sorry, I thought I mention that. LSx type. 4.8/5.3/6.0. Low profile intake makes it fit under front seats. Basically it will be a COE (can over engine) 4L80 trans.

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Ya...my goal is little to no body lift so GM frame is not showing. It's nice to have a clean slate to do what I want. Little body lift, no body lift...The main center frame rails fit nicely just outside the OEM VW rails...so no body lift is a nice option

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

I think I'll start with half ton. Keeping it narrow is a major "want" of mine. Then I'll see what kind of mods I can do. Like I mentioned earlier...I have a stock Vanagon that it looks like I can cut 22" out and use that set up for this build.

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Sounds good. I Just looked at a Tahoe and it looks like I can cut 22" our of the low center part of the frame and put it under a stock length Vanagon. Truck frame won't work. Torsion bars too long. Bed platform too long. I'm jazzed. For the Tahoe system. Have a shorty for off-road and long...

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

I measured a mid 90's 4x4 truck today. Roughly 76" wide in front. I have yet to measure an 8lug suburban. The wheel arch on the VW is 72" outside lip to outside lip. 6lug's seem to be, regardless of year right close to 74" so one inch each side which is not bad. Plus I can screw around with...

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

I know Cool! Great info! People have said with the size of the rig that going 8 lug with 4L80 trans is a better combo vs 6lug. Any opinion on this? 6lug is much more common

I'm cool with a bit wider if I can use the slider. Great info! I'm guessing this applies to 8 lug as well? I want a 3/4+ set up.

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

So 2wd Suburban only or also the truck? I would need to most likely regear the rear diff to match the front? Or find a full 4x4 donor and make it work...then find 2wd rear and hopefully use the 4x4 rear diff Gears in the 2wd, assuming the carrier(?) Can accept the new gears?

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Interesting. So a 2wd rear axle is narrower? My hope is to use the sliding door. If not due to axle, wheel, tire width, I'll fill wing the door or hinge it. My hope is to control axle width first, then wheel offset. Offset will also be determined by wheel size, clearing breaks etc...Lots to figure.

Sorry. Yes they are one. Needs welding cleaned up. Never a runner as one. I'm still figuring out the running gear, which is why I joined this group.

They both were street legal at some point. Front portion, 88 bought from a kid in Idaho, no motor. Missing parts. 200.00 including shipping. Rear portion, is an 80. Sat in a wrecking yard for 15 years. Traded a running late 90's Honda Accord and some cash for it.

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Thanks. And thanks for your reply. The HVAC stuff would be a nice bonus. I measured a Suburban this morning and outside tire to outside tire is 74". The tires would stick out 1"ish each side. Very acceptable. BUT I couldn't find a year...faded. I also measured an early 90's shortbed, also 74"...

    Stretched VW Vanagon on GMT400?

Hey Everybody! I may be a little (a lot? lol) out of place here but thats ok. If this need to go to another thread, let me know. I am new to this entire process and will have many questions. I do not have a GM of any kind but building this Stretched Vanagon that I hope to put the GTM400 or...
