Another 454 Vortec Build Thread - Documenting, Q&A, Help

Gasoline degrades over time. The alcohol they add to gas now absorbs water from the atmosphere which does little to enhance the combustion process. 9 months would not typically be long enough to cause noticeable problems but, as previously stated, I am not convinced the tires on that truck sank...

Another 454 Vortec Build Thread - Documenting, Q&A, Help

Scottm's comment about the gas is a good one. How old is it? If you don't know, you could save yourself a lot of headaches by using it to start a bonfire and replacing with new. I'm not sure about the FPR you indicated, but FP10021 is definitely correct. That engine is more sensitive to the...

Another 454 Vortec Build Thread - Documenting, Q&A, Help

Going to have a hard time convincing me it sunk that far into the dirt in 9 months. Looks like your rear shocks are toast. It's rare for the differential cover gasket to leak unless someone opened it up. This may be exactly what happened since one of your rear drums went AWOL. The lower half...

    Fun on a budget- My 96 Sierra 2500 454

The oil pressure sender is replaced under the hood by touch - you can't see what you need to see. The special socket is required unless you remove the engine.

DON'T reuse the clip. It WILL fail. And you will have no one to curse at but the guy staring back at you in the mirror.

454 swap? What does it entail?

You need a different radiator, radiator brackets, fan, and fan shroud. I would keep the vortec 454 fuel injection system for the sake of simplicity, but that means you need also need the ECM, harness, and a new fuel pump. FYI: not all of the stock fuel injection system parts for the 454 are...

    Kill switch, 1997 k1500 pickup

If the fuel pump is working and the plugs are not firing and the would be thief is a moron there is a definite possibility of flooding/cylinder washdown. You could also put a switch on the starter relay.

    Gas Tank Replacement

If the fuel tank is rusty enough to warrant replacing, you would be wise to replace the brake line that goes up that inside frame rail while the tank is out of the way. There are surprisingly few convenient times to have a brake line rupture. I used these guys https://www.inlinetube.com/ and was...

    Fuel Pressure

If you are at 100% duty cycle and you need more fuel delivered it is time for larger injectors not more pressure.

    Fuel tank Relocating

The secondary tank from the cab and chassis models might be an option if its available. You could also just use a fuel cell.

    Tossing fuel pumps like crazy

The voltage is definitely a problem, although it may not be the only one. Does the pump have a good, clean ground? A poor ground is a common cause of the low voltage/high amperage condition that tends to fry fuel pumps.

    Led Headlights

I have also done this before - and on more than one occasion - with no permanent injury. Like you, I would never have imagined a mere headlight could do such harm. The fact that it seems so impossible/unlikely is why I bring it up. I would like you, me, etc. to not be the next person whose...

    Led Headlights

I was thinking more along the lines of a situation where you are approaching an intersection and turn left in front of opposing traffic. There is a large dip or hump in the road that causes your otherwise perfectly aimed headlights to shine directly into the eyes of the drivers opposite you...

    Led Headlights

The bolded part I quoted from you above is the only misinformation in this thread. If you would like to be introduced to the person whose vision has been impaired I can introduce you. You are not a medical doctor and, even if you were, you have not examined the patient. He has a diagnosis from...

    Led Headlights

Please think of everyone else on the road. Even with properly designed housings that are properly aimed it only takes a slight bump in the road or turn of the wheel to direct those lights directly into the eyes of oncoming traffic. I know someone with permanently impaired vision in one eye...

    BNielsen's 2000 Chevy K3500

I ran Michelins for years with zero problems then the last 3 sets I had all died via a belt separation. The treadwear rating seemed accurate. Never had a dry rot issue on any Michelin, passenger, light truck, or heavy RV.

    BNielsen's 2000 Chevy K3500

On those Hankook's, they're a joke in mud and only average in snow. Those shortcomings aside, I've been flogging a set for years and they haven't missed a beat in general ride 'em hard 'n put 'em away wet abuse. Pro tip: they won't take the sun like a Michelin will.

    17113553 fuel injectors for 454?

Those are a fire hose. 72lbs/hr @ 43.5 PSI, so they'll dump even more than that at the L29's fuel pressure. They will absolutely require tuning.

    Vortec 454 Injectors

Injectors from a 1996 4.6L Mustang are plug and play - no tuning required. I've been running a used set that set me back the grand total of $60 for years with zero problems.

    TBI 454 Misfire

With the latest week of use on it how was your mileage? Live input from a fuel pressure gauge plumbed in as near to the injectors as possible would be valuable to figuring out why you need twice as much throttle now vs. in the past.
