    Vortec engine problems

If you go the parts cannon route to see what sticks, I'd recommend starting with a coolant temp sensor and pigtail near the thermostat, since it's cheap and easy enough. I had a similar intermittent issue when I first got my truck and couldn't track it down. Even with the truck running I could...

    High mileage bragging rights

My 97 C1500 ECSB is at 295k currently. Original motor, has slow oil leaks, but doesn't smoke and oil changes done every 4k miles with full synthetic oil. Dipstick shows about half a quart low at oil change time. Not bad IMO. The rest of the truck isn't in amazing condition by any means, but for...

What motor oil are you running in your Vortec?

I used to run what ever cheap 5W-30 full synthetic was on sale when I needed it, but since the Rotella gas truck oil started showing up on the shelf not too long ago I've been running that. My truck seems to like it, lifters were a little sticky on cold starts, but not after running the Rotella...

    Valve Seals!

First thing, that was me referring to the 305 in my other vehicle. Not the OP. if a $70 whole engine gasket set and my own time and labor is "a waste of money" on a good running engine that needs nothing else, then I must be some special sort of A-hole that likes an engine that doesn't leak oil...

    Valve Seals!

I'd like to see what others have to say about this as well. Getting ready to pull the 305 out of my Camaro for full engine gasket replacement, and through the research I've done it seems like viton seals are the best you can buy.

    Ugh!! yes or no?

Just do a search for NBS Z71 wheels and you should have no problem finding them. I want to say they used those from 2004-2012 or something like that. If you're not looking for "new" or "perfect" ones you can get a good deal on them like I did off of FB marketplace. Paid $200 for my set with a...

    Ugh!! yes or no?

I have those wheels but run smaller tires on my 2wd truck. 245/60/18 I have no rub at stock height, and have no doubt the normal stock size tire for this wheel should work fine. Although there would be some doubts on anything larger than that.

    Best valve cover gasket.

Can't really go wrong with FelPro ones... Never really had an issue with 'em, except for on my Camaro that my young and dumb self 13 years ago put on shiny cheap parts store valve covers that don't clamp down on the gaskets properly. At least our valve covers are stupid easy to service.

    Cab mounts

Fortunately my truck has never left Florida so luckily I've never had an issue with nuts/bolts underneath*knocks on wood* But my only concern is the best way to lift the body up in my driveway with just a floor jack. Common sense tells me an appropriately cut 4x4 chunk of wood should do the job...

    Cab mounts

That's all I need to hear! Looks like cab mounts are going wayyy up on the importance list lol. All the little vibrations from these garbage FL roads around me go straight to irritating my back.

    More air conditioning

I used to be in the same/similar boat as you when I used to daily drive my old 88 Camaro with the same situation of a retrofitted R12-R134a system that I always felt it just didn't blow hard enough, when in reality it just wasn't blowing cold enough. I got maybe on a good day 55 degrees out of...

    Disc conversion for 10 bolt

I've been going back and forth on this, and is one reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on putting disks on my 10 bolt yet. That and I'm not very happy with this 10 bolt I picked up from the JY. It goes down the road fine, noisy but fine. Although I can't say I've ever heard a quiet 10...

    Disc conversion for 10 bolt

Doesn't look promising... No fitment specs, no measurements, etc. I'd stay away from these IMO. There's fairly identical looking bracket kits out there for the 10/12 bolt CAR axles, which have a different bolt pattern on the axle flange. I've already checked, since I took measurements off of my...

    2500's can't tow?

I was going to send you a message about it, but for some reason it won't let me send pictures through PM's. Probably some minimum # of posts requirement or something hell i don't know. Nothing particularly special about it. Just a base model 305/5 speed with a bunch of IROC-Z parts on it I've...

    My 1998 K1500 Silverado

Very nice, I like the clean minimalist look. Question though, how bad was it to mount that console? I've been thinking about swapping mine out for something more convenient, but can't decide on what I want to go with. It sort of looks like the console lid may sit higher than the arm rests...

    2500's can't tow?

Wow, about a year and a half ago uhaul let me tow my 88 Camaro behind my 97 1500 with zero issues. Uhaul is just a major PITA to deal with anyways. I personally plan on buying a small car trailer before the next time I need to tow again, which will be when I eventually bring my Camaro to get...

98/99 vortec 5.7 engine data needed

Since fuel pressure is a known issue, that should be the first item to attack. Gotta start with what you know for sure and take it from there. More issues=more variables=more headaches. I think we all could agree with that. Also, to my understanding of how they work(and someone more...

Rear disc.......again Little Shop manufaturing kit questions

Good deal, I appreciate the feedback on that. Gives me more confidence in dropping the money on the kit. Yeah I expect the bending of the lines to meet up with their bracket to be a bit of a pain just by looking at how it all goes together. It would be nice to get away with cutting my backing...

5 to 6 lug, wheel spacers?

No problem! Not a size I'm familiar with(work at a Nissan dealer) but will likely do the job just fine, keep in mind a 245 width vs 255 width with the same aspect ratio will be slightly taller. But all in all probably not enough to make any difference. I mainly went with this size because they...

5 to 6 lug, wheel spacers?

Sorry, been a bit of a busy week and got side tracked. Grabbed a picture this morning. Still pending some drop shackles in the rear to level it out. Rear disk upgrade is more important right now lol.

    The Stupid Interior Questions Thread

Okay, here's a question I can't seem to find any info on no matter how much I search. I might be searching for the wrong keywords, but anyways.. My 97 C1500 has grey cloth captains chairs, the drivers side flip down arm rest is pretty trashed and I'd like to fix it up. Can't find any matching...

Rear disc.......again Little Shop manufaturing kit questions

I know its been almost 2 months, but I'm getting ready to order the same kit for my 97.. Did you get around to installing, and if so how did yours go? Feeling a little concerned about spending this much money to get better brakes and better pedal, and there are more than a few instances it seems...
