You have to install both bearings to check the contact pattern. If you don't have enough shims, your pinion will be too far forward and you'll crush the sleeve down too small. Absolutely this. You only get one bearing in a rebuild kit, and I had to cut off the old bearing, so it was trashed. I bought a spare bearing and ground the inside very slightly larger so I could just barely get it on and off. Yup. Instead of shopping for a "crush sleeve elminator kit", look...- Erik the Awful

Headers for 1989 swb silverado 350 2wd
I have the Hedman headers on my '89 2wd 350. Weld the driver's side flange with the flattest side on top, then grind that flat side away so that there's only 1/8" left. Otherwise when you romp on it the engine torques up and the header hits your shift linkage, putting you in neutral. Ask me how...- Erik the Awful

One important tip on V-band clamps. Once you have them in place snug them up and then take your smallest hammer and tap around the outside of the band to settle it onto the flanges. I wouldn't go back with a 6.5. A Cummins swap would be the only way I'd go diesel, and it's not a budget friendly solution. Is the Suburban hard broke? If not, I'd get that sucker back on the road. Bought a used dash...not sure I'm gonna use it.
Vinyl is plastic. I painted some of the interior bits in WCJr more than five years ago. It hasn't had constant daily driving, but it has been parked outside that whole time. How good/bad are your roads? If you have good roads, you can swap up to 17" or larger wheels with a shorter sidewall for a sportier suspension feel. My roads suck, so I'm sticking with 15s. Brakes before HP. If you're wanting a sporty vehicle, these trucks really aren't a good starting point...- Erik the Awful

In my state there's no safety inspection, and when there was, it was simply an exchange of $5 for a sticker. Nothing got inspected. I suspect it's like that in most states that have inspections. You're the one making the claim. I don't remember, so therefore it didn't happen unless you prove otherwise. We never sent any engines to a machine shop. Nissan had their own rebuilding facility, and we only did remove/replace.- Erik the Awful

Changing to split bench from a '94
If you have a welder, just weld your new (or old) nut to the bottom of the floor pan, wire brush it, and hit it with some Rustoleum. If you don't have a welder, be sure and use a conical or three-punch lock nut. Use grade-8 hardware, because in a crash, it's keeping you from getting ragdolled...- Erik the Awful
