    Hunting down a weird idle

Hey all. The current tune in my engine runs 25° advanced at idle. This seems excessive and I think it’s causing a very rough idle. Does this seem correct for an L 29?

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

There is a faint smell of fuel actually. I will check it out, thank you.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

I should add as well: I installed a new OEM fuel rail when I did the top end and the injectors were multi hole instead of the single hole version.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

No worries, certainly need to verify! I am calculating from odometer and gallons added. The city has a speed radar display on my street and it matches to within 1mph to the needle on the dash.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

Yes rich. What you've stated is also my understanding about the ECU's ability, and why the tuner said it isn't really anything to worry about. He's convinced that the ECU (black box) is getting bunk information form something but I have literally swapped every sensor on the engine to no avail...

Troy Brown at Howell tuned it.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

I run HP tuners and have done about half a dozen scans. The long term fuel trim show fat around 7% and the guy who tuned it said that’s nothing that will be causing such poor mileage. I have not figured out how to see torque converter clutch activity within HP tuners but I will look again...

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

Before doing the engine stuff the truck is probably getting around eight average. Before I did the motor I redid all the suspension components including bearings on all four corners. Like literally tore the entire front end out and rebuilt it. The rear brakes are disconversions and I have...

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

This is on my short list, however my long-term fuel trims are showing fat for some reason.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

I blocked out the EGR because it was stuck open causing bad map readings so the ECU is pulling timing like crazy. Tires are pumped up, I don’t expect amazing mileage but I do expect better than five.

    1999 K2500 continuously gets 5mpg

Hey all - I have a k2500 ccsb with a modded 7.4. Stock bottom end with Brodix short runner heads and all the valve train goodies. 510 cam both sides with a nice lsa for efi. The truck never gets better than 5mpgs (empty or towing). I have done it all: maf, o2s, new ECU, three new tunes, blocked...

L29 Build update - gremlins persist

Actually I am getting conflicting information on this from a couple tuners. There will never be positive intake manifold pressure unless the engine has forced induction, the highest it will ever achieve is the same as the static barometric pressure of the elevation you're at. So an increase in...

Rear Catalytic Converter Direct Fit Options - 1999 7.4 CCSB

I am learning that this is a way to avoid the generation break year, thanks for the tip. Apparently chevy sold GMT400 and 800s simultaneously for a couple years.

Rear Catalytic Converter Direct Fit Options - 1999 7.4 CCSB

Hey there - I ordered the Magnaflow y pipe with driver side cat (93607) but I cannot find the the next section with the passenger side cat to fit my truck. I have found part #95471 that looks to be identical to my stock exhaust, but anytime I verify fit on summit or jegs is comes back as...

L29 Build update - gremlins persist

After I wrote that I looked up what a pascal was and my 8th grace chem class came roaring back into memory. I do not have a wide band only because I have no idea how they're typically done. New bungs for both sides? Or are there models or harnesses that interface with the black box? Lack of...

L29 Build update - gremlins persist

The truck has stock knock sensors that are currently unplugged because my first guess was that I was getting significant knock retard. Once I was able to see the spark table and the airflow measurements, O2 values etc it was clear that the timing was just laid out this way. I am starting to...

L29 Build update - gremlins persist

Hey all - some updates on my L29 build: I dove into HP Tuners and through the help form folks on the HP Tuner forums figured out that my timing table was no where near what it needed to be. I've been flashing updated timing on the ECM and things are improving with every new table. One thing...

Having problems getting 99 7.4 Cam retard to zero out

The thread mentioned above is my post about this exact issue. I am convinced at this point that the issue is the aftermarket dizzys are not manufactured correctly. I encountered this with a few parts on my 99 7.4 rebuild last fall. I am in the process of figuring out why my Snap On scanner...

Post L29 Build gremlin - need ideas

Very interesting. So the base plate that the rotor is keyed into is adjustable. Seems I need to pull the distro and look at this. Since I did such a significant rebuild of this motor (entire top end including timing set) is it possible that the crank relearn function that I cannot perform is...

Post L29 Build gremlin - need ideas

The distro housing will turn fully but the cap and plug wires will come into contact with the upper intake to where I cannot rotate it sufficiently to achieve 0 retard.

Post L29 Build gremlin - need ideas

That is a distinct possibility and I know for a fact one cat has some significant holes (will leak condensation). Will that cause a lean read by upstream O2s?

L29 rebuild - give me ideas

It's great. Far superior to the PSC box that I had in there previously and it is cheaper. Recommend it unequivocally.
