How to: Install DIC in gmt400 overhead console

I stuck my sensor behind the cluster somewhere and grabbed a dash support that was grounded. My thought was it would measure interior temp. Turns outs that sensor needs to be in airflow. Pretty sure it’s adjusted with VSS, so mine doesn’t read close to accurately. I grabbed a smaller GMT800...

    Battery problem

Last year my battery would die within about 3 days. I did the voltmeter test and never saw over .040A draw. Got tired over screwing within dead batteries and this was my solution: Harbor Freight 4A battery tender with a 7 Pin trailer connector. This time of year the truck might sit for months...

Ugh that blows. I got excited for a min thinking I might reseal my just starting to weep booster, but **** that. I’m due for another power steering flush this spring. I’m sure the stuff that came out two years ago was the original fluid, and my god was it disgusting.

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

So the TPS I robbed from the LQ4 sitting in my Blazer seems to have 90% improved the stumbling issue I was getting once hot. I may just pull the trigger on a new one. I noticed the truck generally seems to drive a little better too I guess wonky throttle data will do that. The front drivers...

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

Time to knock the dust off this thread. Summer has been flying by. It’s been jam packed with **** postponed from COVID last year. I haven’t had a ton of time to do things to the truck. I put a pair of Bilsteins in the back at a campground back in July and oh my what an improvement. I replaced...

    Interesting manifold temp sensor data

Stock tune in my L29 gives me about 7* at similar throttle and rpm. No knock counts. I really need HPTuners so I can do the ‘411 pcm.

    Proportional Brake Controller

I replaced a broken DrawTite brand in my truck with a Tekonsha P3. The gain on the Drawtite could not be adjusted down and would lock the trailer brakes. The P3 works nice and smooth and no longer has the jerky braking feel when slowing to a stop sign, ect. I wouldn’t tow with anything else again.

    CCLB dually #2

My fan is the loudest part on the truck initially with the bus muffler. Once things start warming up and the fan frees up its super quiet. My half assed install with leaking band clamps at the muffler is probably louder than the noise actually coming from the tailpipe.

How to: Install DIC in gmt400 overhead console

Figured they were a resistor of some sort, but I’m not too savvy with electronics. I did note that that part of the board got quite warm after only a min or two of use. I’m guessing that’s why those cold soldered joints fail.

How to: Install DIC in gmt400 overhead console

I just updated my truck thread about how I fixed a nonfictional DIC, so I figured I’d post it here too. After checking the wiring about a dozen times, I decided it had to be internal. I pulled the module apart, and the failure was immediately obvious. The chips located in the upper right...

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

I suppose it’s time for a forward progress update. For over a year, I had a nonfunctional DIC installed in my overhead console. It flickered to life once for about 30sec and never since. When I could muster the gumption, I’d check and recheck the wiring, thinking that had to be the issue. Fed...

I’m thinking a heat shield around the manifold might help here. That’s a big lump of hot iron sitting directly under the air filter and inlet tubing. One thing that might be hurting my IATs too is my torn up fender pants. My front end guy butchered them when it was in for an alignment. I noted...

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

You’re saying cylinder pressure would be up so less timing is required? My buddies Ram blew a brake line, so I went back into town to pull his toy hauler out. Logged again with that hitched up. I was getting 7* on the hills with no knock counts, so I guess that’s all the black box will feed it.

The Official Vortec 454 Info thread

I ran a log today. Climbed a pretty good hill with my camper hitched at about 45mph, and at the top of the hill, IATs were pushing 115* with ambients in the 70s. It was enough to kick in the fan clutch, so it got warm. A few miles down the road, at a steady 50-55mph, here’s where I was sitting.

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

I’ve got a ‘411 PCM to install some day. Everything I’ve read on here says these L29s respond very well to a little more ignition timing. Edit: I logged my trip out with the trailer loaded up. I do believe I am in need of some timing. I didn’t use the dashboard setup with knock retard, so I’ll...

The Official Vortec 454 Info thread

I’ve noticed IATs within a few degrees of ambient at about 35mph. Once stopped though, IATs quickly climbed to 15-20* above ambient. That was at idle. I wonder if there is just not enough airflow to keep the IATs cool. I’ll have to monitor that to see how long it take to cool back down.

I think it would shift the torque curve a little lower. I’m not sure if there would be any appreciable increase. I was more thinking out loud.
