Would this trans be identifiable as likely nv3500

While the nv4500 is much stronger, the nv3500 does what it's intended purpose is just fine. I've owned/driven both for over 10 yrs and both trucks are driven similarly, ie not beat on, but not babied either. I have seen a suburban converted to a nv3500 yrs ago. Guy loved it. As for buying one in...

How do I find out what transmission I have?

I agree it should be the 5LM60, but if you can't read the RPO in the glove box, try this site to decode your vin#. www.vindecoderz.com

Bought a K2500, wrong mileage, needs some work, advice?

From the pic it looks like a very nice truck & is nicely equiped. If the inside is as good as the outside & the engine/trans/rear check out ok, I'd say you've got a pretty good truck. Sucks about being lied to about the mileage, but as others already said, much of the previous repairs are mostly...

Need some advice on a 1995 K1500 potential purchase

Like others said, usually northerners come south to buy vehicles, not the other way around. That said, for a Chicago plow truck, I'd say it doesnt look too bad. That doesnt mean I would buy it though. Being in the south, I would think you could pretty easily find a much better truck to start...

Happy birthday. Here's a nearly twin to your truck. 93, 350, nv4500, 3.73s and 6 in lift. My old truck.

    Grandpa's '94 K1500 Cheyenne

I agree with everyone else, keep it stock and enjoy. If your truck doesn't have skidplates, you might want to add them. They're not too hard to find at the local pull a part. Otherwise just have fun and drive it. Your grandpa bought a keeper for ya!

    Z71 question

Yup, Z71 only gets ya decals, shocks & skidplates. G80 was an option and as far as the gears, GU6 for 3.42 and GT4 for 3.73, I'd say it's about a 50/50 mix. As for the newer Z71s, not sure about what year it started, however now you don't automatically get 4wd when you get a Z71.

    1995 K1500 Paint Rarity

Try this, it's free, doesnt give production #s, but everything else including recalls. https://www.vindecoderz.com/ You can also go to any GM dealer. In the service dept give them your vin# and they can give you a print out of all your RPOs.

Are TBI 350’s just this sluggish?

I've seen lots of original 350 and 305s with 3.42s. Seems almost 50/50 between 3.42 or 3.73 regardless of engine. I'm only speaking of 4wd 1/2 ton and have never seen any other gear for them, though I've heard others say 4.10s were available. Only 4.10 ive seen is in 3/4 or 1 ton.

    3500 or 4500?

You can also check the RPO list in the bottom of the glove box. Should have code MT8 or MW3 for the nv4500. I'm pretty confident that is what you have although I have seen one nv3500 in a 'light duty' 2500. It had the 6 lug 14 bolt. Going the other way, I owned one and have seen quite a few 1/2...

    1992 K1500 4x4 Build Thread

Why do you think it is older? I'm guessing because of the wheels & no third brake light? However I'll bet it's a 92 cause of the grill/headlights. Nice truck BTW.

    NV3500 to T56 swap?

Gears are probably 3.73. If it's still legible, there will be a decal in the bottom of the glove box with the RPO list. GT4 will be 3.73 and G80 for limited slip.

    Introducing "Ole Red"

1)beautiful truck, you've done a very good job as the original 'caretaker'. 2)as for the brush guard, call me old school as I like that style as opposed to the newer bull bars everyone seems to put on. As for the chrome, I do prefer the black, but only cause I can easily touch it up when I...

    Dye vs Paint

I've used both dupli-color and SEM with good results with both. Only used rubbing alcohol to clean plastic and no adhesion promoter and came out fine. I used SEM for the maroon as I couldnt find it in dupli-color.

    Codes in glovebox

If you're friendly with someone in the parts or service dept at any GM dealership you can get that same printout of the RPO codes. Any dealership can do it, some of the employees may not know how to do it, but everytime I've asked they've always found someone who can.
