    Convertor stall and you

Very good description. After well over 35 years of drag racing, I couldn’t have said it better without writing a novel. The science of torque converters can be complex and I suggest that if a person finds a company that can build one to your satisfaction, stick with them.

    Obstruckparts.org

I agree. I just wanted to bring this website to everybody’s attention so it can be discussed beforehand. After looking it over I’ve become suspicious. Anybody have 1st hand experience?

    Knocking

Unfortunately mine doesn’t have a block heater. I guess it’s because I live in the south. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one except in a diesel. However I have noticed it being louder in cold weather and I have heard of it happening in other trucks like ours. Thanks for the reply.

    Knocking

That is a most informative reply.

    Knocking

I’ll try removing the belt. I didn’t think about that. I’m leaning toward a bad lifter even though the sound seems deeper. I built the transmission and checked the flex plate and its all good. Thanks.

    Knocking

My ‘98 factory 5.7 makes a knocking sound after a cold start. I do have a good bit of engine experience but I haven’t come across anything quite like this. It starts the knock about 3-4 seconds after the start and continues for about 20 seconds then goes away. It doesn’t seem like a lifter...

Tbi 350 has no power on the road

Check your exhaust. The catalytic converter could be stopped up or the muffler could be restricted.

Tuning vortec to run on as little sensors as possible

You can program to never come out pf open loop then tune the af mixture and timing to your preference. It’s a little bit like speed-density and more like a carburetor. I’ve done it trying to tune for the drag strip. It can make for more consistent e.t.’s if done right. Just look for closed loop...

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

The cats are new stock from Walker and the rest is original. When I can afford it I’m thinking about a Flowmaster 2-in 2-out quiet muffler and duals. The planned exhaust could be better but I want quiet and something easy to return to stock.

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

I forgot to say that I have shorty headers, stainless. Not as good as long tubes but better than stock. Good thoughts about exhaust. I can tune the ecm since I have HPTuners and have used it a few times. Thanks.

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

Thank you for the excellent advice. My heads are already done by a good friend that does circle track heads. He did all the checking and put in new guides, valves, studs, springs and guide plates. The heads were proven from another engine I ran before. I don’t have money for parts to do the...

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

My 98 has the stock L31 with 162,000 mi and in excellent shape. Uses no oil; had mobil 1 most of its life and compression test is great. I’m thinking about upgrading to the newer spider, 0411, lightly ported heads w good springs and more lift capacity (heads are done) and a Bullett recommended...

getting new exhaust system, need advice on headers

Now that’s the way to configure exhaust for these trucks. I’ll be doing the same with shorties but I want to easily swap back to manifolds if I want. I never can make up my mind so I decided to make it cheaper to change things. You shouldn’t need a Y-pipe with the 2-in muffler.

Need help with steering wheel airbag.

I got it done! After I finally got it off I know how it works. Really simple like I knew it would be so next time it won’t be a problem.

Need help with steering wheel airbag.

I’m not through. Perseverance is a must if you work on vehicles so I’ll stay with it. I guess the spring is built like the 96 model so it’s just a matter of finding it by feel.

Need help with steering wheel airbag.

I’m having a problem trying to remove the steering wheel airbag on my ‘98 1500. I’ve seen YouTube videos and I have service manuals for the ‘96 model year but I can’t find the right technique for releasing the springs from the retainers. Is the 96 the same? Videos only say how to do it but for...

97 K3500 7.4l spitting, sputtering, backfires, and stalls

11.7 volts is too low imo. Start simple by checking the battery (should be 12.5 at least with engine not running). If the battery checks good then crank the engine and test again; you should be getting 13.5 to 14v. If not then you have either a bad alternator or bad positive wire from alternator...

    4l60e need help

Code 66 shows to be low or high pressure in the AC system so that should be unrelated to that issue in your transmission. I think you might have a harness problem. Check the big connection going into the tranny and make sure it is lined up and connected well. It could also be a problem in the...
