Dually suburban build and maual swap, and one ton upgrades >;)

I liked that one from the first time I saw Twister at the drive-in theater. It was obviously not factory and modified with a dually rear end because the front wheels are not dually.

Dually suburban build and maual swap, and one ton upgrades >;)

I didn't see any mention if the Suburban is a 1500 or 2500. Either way, I would plan on some significant frame reinforcement to handle the upgrades you are talking about. Putting a 1 ton rear end under there doesn't make it a 1 ton. Great idea though. I have dreamed about doing the same thing...

    1999 2500 For Sale

Ya, it's long gone. Al is right, I swapped it for the Escalade. Still see it driving around once in a while. I even still miss having the 3/4 ton once in a while, but I'm loving the Escalade. Sorry about not replying sooner. I don't have any 400's anymore, so I don't check in here much.

    "Big Ugly" 99 Chevy C2500

Nevada it's a pretty simple process. Certified shop does the inspection for all the safety items, ie. lights, horn, glass, frame, that sort of thing, and sign off on it and DMV issues a new title with the salvage branding on it. Inspection is the labor rate for the shop, I think $75, and the...

    "Big Ugly" 99 Chevy C2500

It can definitely go back on the road if you want it bad enough. My Escalade is going back in for inspection soon after killing Jeff the Antelope a month ago. This will be the 4th branding on the title, but as long as the insurance company will keep insuring it, I'll keep fixing it!

    2004 2500HD Project

It's kinda funny reading back through some old threads and seeing what I wrote. Giving you crap about giving up on the CCLB Dually 400 for a whimpey 6.0L. And here I am driving around an Escalade with a 6.0L in it because I couldn't find, and still can't find, that one perfect truck. And, while...

So did you get it back out of the junk yard? I forget how bad the mildew collects on vehicles out there in the humidity!

    GMT400s in the Movies

I know it's been mentioned and pictured, but I think it's about the most iconic GMT-400 in all the movies I have seen. I think it was this one that made me want this model so much.

That's the same one as in the earlier post that was yellow and had awful stickers on it.

Bed out of line, mounts or bent frame?

Pull up the carpet in the cab over the rear mounts. My son had a '99 crew that had alignment problems. From the underside everything looked great. Under the carpet the cab metal was split/torn and caused the alignment issues. We jacked up the cab and welded a few support pieces in and everything...

I have one of those but it says Matco on it. Been in my tool box for over 20 years, one of my favorites!

So I want to build a bumper

Post 31 shows the bumper my son started building in high school shop class. He didn't finish it all the way, neither did I. https://www.gmt400.com/threads/99-suburban-overland-rig.42953/page-4

    stuff that catches my eye

I drove one for a short while. It was a '99 with the 7.4L. Not a very smooth ride, missing that extra length really made a difference. Notice that ad says its $7700 above average price. Definitely not worth it!

    Fuel millage

I was very pleasantly surprised. I got to drive this thing for a little over a month before I claimed it as mine, so I drove it every which way I could think of to test mpg. Shockingly enough, the average mpg figured by the computer is consistently about a half a mpg lower that what the hard...

    When my GMT400 isn't enough...

What's the overall life expectancy on a 8.1? I have had 5.7 and 7.4 go well over 200K when taken care of. I have seen many over 300K. Is the 8.1 just as stout of a creation?

    Knock sensor replacement. 2000 454

Yes, one on each side of the 7.4, at least on the Vortec engines. When I rebuilt mine both holes were plugged tight. If they areplugged, it's ok to leave them like that, the knock sensor does not use coolant to work properly.

    Knock sensor replacement. 2000 454

Ya, what Richard said. Also take great care when unplugging the connector, they tend to break very easily.

    When my GMT400 isn't enough...

So what are the real world mpg numbers with a 6.0 towing a 7K lb travel trailer? I learned that they are no better than the 7.4 when you bump up the speed to 85-90 mph. That takes the rpm from about 1900 @ 70 up to about 2600 @ 90. I ran for about 35 miles at 90 the other day and did no better...
