    Pull the #2 plug out (because it's the easiest to get to) ground it to the exhaust manifold and have someone start it, you should have a nice hard to see skinny blue spark... if it's a fat yellow spark then you don't have enough angry pixies making it to the plug so trouble shoot from there...

    AcDelco or Felpro are the picks of the litter for GM stuff *Also try rock auto for all you acdelco and felpro stuff, prices are usually the cheapest even with shipping but when I went through my l31 vortec I couldn't find and reputable brand name timing covers.

    Could be the voltage regulator in the alternator, also it's never a bad idea to clean your ground lugs and add a little dielectric grease before you tighten them back up.

    Once its running shes a tire killing machine and accelerates pretty well on the top end too and yes if you turn the rotor back and forth it does click but I've messed with the distributors in both my l31 vortec trucks quite a bit (manifold gaskets )and both have always had backlash like that.
