    Body Mount Rust - Opinions...

thanks again for the comments - I had to roll the dice a bit and put down a deposit as 2500s that arn't well used up are not all that common up here. Hopefully it won't be an issue...

    Body Mount Rust - Opinions...

Thanks - I'm not too worried about the mounts themselves as they can be replaced - it's if it's spread to the body - looks ok to me but just double checking here...

    Body Mount Rust - Opinions...

Hi all, This is a GMT800 question, but I'm on this forum as I had a 98 Tahoe. Sold my Tahoe but now looking for a replacement. This is a 2004 Yukon XL with about 91k miles - 6L - 3/4Ton - 2WD - 4.10 clean body. High price for what it is, but whatever... Question is: the truck spent the first...

What do you think of this Burb?

Ok thanks for all the comments - I have to sh*t or get off the pot, so I'll pass on it and hold out for a Vortec one or an GMT800. I don't need to tow for six months and my AWD Flex can handle it in a pinch for now. For me a truck is a tool, and I should get something that is better than my...

What do you think of this Burb?

thanks for posting... Around town it would be fine, but doing the Mtns it might start to get thin on power - I went over the Rockies last summer and it was ok, but I wouldn't want to be down any more than what I had.

    good advice - thanks.

What do you think of this Burb?

Thanks, My trailer has electric brakes, and my experiences with my 98 Tahoe was to chill and let the world pass me by on the left. My daily winter driver is a Volvo 240, and then in summer I use a 40 year old BMW or a 60 year old Volvo. With all the traffic these days I'm content to driver...

What do you think of this Burb?

So has anyone back to back towed with the TBI and Vortec and noticed a big difference?

What do you think of this Burb?

here's my trailer... I was figuring that the lower power TBI would be balanced by the longer WB, lower end torque, and simpler repairs - making it a push...

What do you think of this Burb?

Thanks for the comments and replies. 1. Yep I'm in Canada - so that price is around 4500USD and mileage is like 88,000 miles. Where I am rust isn't a huge issue as we only get maybe 2 weeks of snow/year, at best. I get that sitting is an issue, but as long as major seals aren't done, I'd...

What do you think of this Burb?

Hi, I used to own a 98 Tahoe and used it to pull a grossly oversized A-Frame style pop-up trailer that we still have (18' long, 2000lbs empty, about 3200lbs loaded + 2 adults, 3 smaller kids, and gear in truck). I sold it, and for some reason I'm looking at another GMT400 that I don't really...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I might look into an equalization hitch, a bit tricky to find for a lighter trailer but they are out there. I'm thinking that upgrading to a GMT800 doesn't make sense, unless MAYBE a stellar Suburban/Yukon XL shows. Good thoughts on the 4.8. I'll probably...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Hi, Thanks for the replies. The drivetrain is in great shape, but I think the Mrs. isn't thrilled with the clearcoat failure, torn driver's seat, and steady list of minor breakages/issues. The trailer does sag down the rear of my Tahoe noticeable, but it handles/drives/stops fine while...

    Spares for a road trip

Lol! First step is keep the truck up to speed on maintenance before leaving, then take a few generic spares plus tools and fluids, but I was just thinking of other things that may go - electric things. I've never needed anything before, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Just thought I'd ask for some 2 cents on this. We have a 98 Tahoe with about 120k miles that's getting a bit old (drivetrain great, seats, body, little plastic things not so much). We bought it to tow a light trailer, but now we have a larger 18ft tent trailer - (2k empty/3500lbs max) and that...

    Spares for a road trip

I have a 98 Tahoe with about 120k miles (192k kms). I'm planning a decent sized road trip this summer towing an oversized tent trailer, and while the truck is up on maintenance (or will be) I thought I'd ask for any recommendations for GMT400 specific spares that folks on here might recommend...

Catalytic Converter Recommendations for stock exhaust

I have a 98 Tahoe 1/2 ton 4x4 - it appears that the cats are getting old, triggering the check engine light. The o2 sensors seem to be working fine. The exhaust is in pretty good shape and completely stock. I don't have to worry about emissions testing but of course want the FI system to be...

    Towing rear sag question

Hi, Thanks for the reply. The only part I'm not clear on is: "You will discover first if you are exceeding your rear axle weight rating which typically is the combined max of the factory tire size ratings at max pressure." My rear axle is 3700lbs and the tires are each rated are 2400lbs max.

    1998 Tahoe Towing/Power question

Thanks very much - factory exhaust and aging cat - the truck is a 4x4 with factory oil and transmission coolers

    What have you towed lately

Our really large A-Frame trailer - 18ft (just posted this in my rear end sag thread)

    Towing rear sag question

Here is a pic - increased gap above front tires is 1", and rear sags about 1 3/4". Too much? Truck is stock.

    1998 Tahoe Towing/Power question

Thanks - I found GT4 in the glove box code sheet, so 3.73? Considering that this truck is most needed for road trips, would it be worth looking out for a 3.43, or isn't it a big deal? Is one more popular/common than the other, or really a 6 of 1 sort of thing.

    Towing rear sag question

Thanks, Drives fine - visual thing. The front (measured gap between top of tire and bottom of wheel arch/fender) is about 1" increase.

    Towing rear sag question

Hi, One more quick question: 1998 Tahoe 1/2 ton + 2100lbs (2600lbs-ish loaded) 18ft trailer. The rear end sags by about 1 3/4" and you can notice it when looking at it. Mind you, the rear sags almost as much when I stand on the rear bumper. I just took it on a long trip and it behaved well -...
