Looking for what might be a "non-standard" serpentine belt size

Thank you ******** (seems weird calling someone that). Thats what I had to do because I put it off and the air pump bearing locked up solid. Unfortunately there were horses in the trailer and you never want to get stuck on the side of the road with horses. Too much danger to the horses...

    Ribbon temp guage stuck

My '89 has a stuck gauge, registering "full hot" to the right. Disconnecting the wire from the sensor does nothing. Disconnecting the battery does nothing. I don't understand how this is a grounding issue when there's no available live circuits anywhere.

    Temp guage reading wrong

I would have started a new thread with this same title, but I haven't done the same work. Temp gauge is pegged now all the time, is the first step to look at wiring or to test the sending unit? I see one on the driver's side in that head but don't know if that's the only one this orig 7.4L TBI...

Looking for what might be a "non-standard" serpentine belt size

This I agree with, and my experience also backs that up. I will note that a '74 Camaro I used to have had the AIR pump. It was a CA car, so its 350 was rated for 160 instead of 185HP for that year. Still had a decent Q-Jet that was easy to tune / swap jets and secondary hangars into and with...

String method, ha! And thanks for the links. It's nice to have options. The style that's in the other manifold have hex heads. I figured worse case I could just remove one and take it into a store to verify.

Looking for what might be a "non-standard" serpentine belt size

The setup on this truck pumps air into exhaust manifolds but does not divert into the air cleaner from what I remember. It's mostly a farm truck pulling a horse trailer, and on occasion when on the open road the cat is plenty hot by then I'm sure.

Looking for what might be a "non-standard" serpentine belt size

This is a C3500 pickup, not the squarebody Suburban of that year. An actual GMT400. Schurkey, I've asked previously about the air pump, something I had not seen since my '74 Camaro (CA emissions) many years ago. The consensus was that it did little if anything to clean the air ... I live in a...

Looking for what might be a "non-standard" serpentine belt size

'89 7.4L with A/C but without air pump. (I want to remove the air pump). On rockauto.com I see listings for with A/C, without A/C, and with air pump but I haven't come across listing without air pump. So a question is, in '89 was the air pump standard on the 454, or not? I'm guessing it's...

    '89 door pull strap?

C3500 Silverado This is the plastic strap you pull in order to close the door. It's got metal ends, that I suppose bolt to the door panel ... and one has rusted through. (I didn't find any reproduction parts available such as for square bodies.) Rather than search junkyards for another piece...

pre-bent brake line ... can't find it from the usual sources

I think I saw theirs but something was different, like the year ... what I ran into was that a place like that would have something close but with zero explanation of why or why not the part might be different. I got it done yesterday with a piece of 10mm line I bent into shape. The OEM line...

Thanks, I did try LMC first but they only sell full kits for ‘93 models.

Nothing for the truck in question there, but thanks for the additional potential source!

pre-bent brake line ... can't find it from the usual sources

Might be able to cut the line and slide some portions off, although it sorts begs the question of why bother if not all of it could be covered. I'll see about copper/nickel line.

pre-bent brake line ... can't find it from the usual sources

Seems that if I want to rebuild a truck I'm golden, as full kits are generally available. But just getting an old warrior back on the road? Not so much. Am I going to have to bend my own line? My track record is poor for that. I'll need to whine about it first. '93 6.5L turbo C2500, 2WD...

    The Stupid Electronics Questions Thread

Wow, a 10 year old thread and searching within it has no search result hits for "antenna cable extension". Seems odd; when looking at radios and radio dash kits for these trucks I keep seeing available antenna cable extensions. I'm starting to take the hint. So here's my stupid question(s)...

    4 Hi Headlight Mod

I notice the headlight switch comes before the multi function switch in diagrams. Dumb question: Does the original yellow wire need to be kept intact (tapped into) in order for the multi-switch (high beam selector) or anything else to stay functional? If so, I'll want to get one of the better...

    4 Hi Headlight Mod

The thing about working upside down in the footwell, is that once yer in there you can just relax on your back. :) The truth is that if I can't see a yellow wire under there with which to test I may punt on that method. Although I DO need to dig into the dash to fix my busted headlight switch...

    4 Hi Headlight Mod

Schurkey's post back a few pages back got me thinking about all the relevant ways this mod can be done. I don't know if I have the quote feature working here so here's a link: https://www.gmt400.com/threads/4-hi-headlight-mod.122/page-47#post-989084 I also like Daniel Stern's piece about...

    EGR Causing Failure to Idle?

Thanks for that info and shared experience. I don't have a Windows PC nor Android phone, so the computer stuff is likely out for me. The older vehicles I'd occasionally want this for are not driven often, so the cost investment does lean (for me) towards something consumer based and low cost...

Is it just a general pain to pull the soundstage off the rear wall in these trucks?

Many vehicles have rear speaker locations that do more harm than good. Don't feel compelled to use them if they don't work like you think they should. Measure the basic distance. If the rears are up higher (yes) and closer than the fronts (maybe) you're listening with your back to the concert...

    4L80E torque converter

Higher stall speeds for engines that make little power down low. Lower stall speeds for engines that makes more power down low. This is why diesel trucks come with torque converters with a lower stall speed. Of course, race drivetrains need stronger than stock torque converters. Whomever...

'88-'90? How to remove wiper pulse module from wiper motor?

"the piece underneath" not sure I follow there The motor bracket (arm) has a stud attached (single or dual "head") that's less of a bearing than a simple stud knob. Hardened steel, thankfully. I asked the wife for assistance in finding the missing bracket on the ground and of course she got...

'88-'90? How to remove wiper pulse module from wiper motor?

I can now see how perhaps the "single ball" motor arm attaches to both rods, with all the brackets stacked on one another. So maybe I could have done that instead of swapping mine over. Either way I still need to track down that missing bracket.
