    Time for a new motor

How is the supplied chip working for you? Have you logged it to see how it’s doing? Automatic or manual tranny? Sorry for all the Qs, just trying to decide which way I want to go when my engine kicks the bucket. Would enjoy the extra power but don’t want a lot of headaches as a result.

    Knock Count

The compression tester is a brand new OTC model 5606, of course that doesn't mean it's accurate. I can check it up to about 120 psi with my compressor, I should probably do that. I'm not concerned about the smoke from cleaning the carbon, I live out in the country. I just want to use whatever...

    Knock Count

    I got some time to tinker with the truck this weekend, so I pulled the plugs and checked the compression. #1 = 173 psi #3 = 170 psi #5 = 174 psi #7 = 177 psi #2 = 170 psi #4 = 169 psi #6 = 165 psi #8 = 166 psi Are those results normal for a TBI 350 or a little high? A few of the plugs (#1...

88 truck, runs great with the map unplugged

You can grab a cable from Moates (or build one) and connect laptop running TunerPro RT to it to view the live data stream. You'll need to check which ECM you have and get the matching ADX file as well. https://www.moates.net/gm-19851995-c-64.html Edit: You'll need at least the ALDU1 and a...

    Missing 02 wire

My '95 K1500 w/5.7 & 5-spd has a 1 wire O2 sensor and the purple wire for it comes out of the main harness just above the left valve cover. The wire runs behind the engine towards the right side of the truck and my guess is it goes through the firewall right under the A/C accumulator and to the ECM.

    Re writable ecu Chip???

From what research I've done, this seems like a very good option. The developers of that program are active on the https://www.thirdgen.org message board and seem to be willing to lend a hand where they can. The learning curve for this stuff can be pretty steep, even for someone with decent...

OE Accumulator/filter drier insulation from GMT800

You can also buy foam tape with an adhesive backing used to insulate pipes at Home Depot or Lowes. Just be a pain to get off. But I wouldn't worry about it either.

    Knock Count

No, it idles pretty steady at about 650 RPM. I do get an occasional change in tone with maybe a 25 RPM shift and the timing changes with it maybe a degree or 2. But as it turns out, the timing fluctuating I was seeing is in the timing light not the truck! My bad on that. I just connected...

    Knock Count

I don't fully understand how it all works yet. I've read some posts that suggest it is normal to see that fluctuation at idle and others that suggest it isn't. It's not dancing like a strobe light or anything or but it's moving enough that it never stops for over 1/2 a second. Constantly back...

    Knock Count

I checked the timing with another light this afternoon and the base timing is just about dead center 0 with the ESC wire unplugged. But I noticed something I'm not sure about. I decided to check how much advance it has with the ESC wire plugged back in, so I turned the truck off, plugged wire...

OE Accumulator/filter drier insulation from GMT800

On my '95, the insulation is in 2 pieces (top and bottom). You clamp the accumulator in the metal clamp that bolts to the firewall before you put the insulation on. The insulation has factory cut outs that allow it slide over the pipes and mounting bracket. There is a plastic clamp that is about...

    Knock Count

Yes. That’s on my list to do. But I’m wandering if the exhaust leak is also contributing. It’s leaking between the manifold and head at #7 right above the O2 sensor and also at the flange right below it. Neither are that bad yet though. I’m not going to tackle that until a couple months when I...

    Knock Count

Well I bought the truck used with 90k on it, so it's possible. I've never had the cover off the ECM. According to the sticker on the ECM, it's a 16196396 with a BDUY bin and my understanding is it doesn't have a memcal (G2 I think?). So I should be able to tell if it's been de-soldered. I've...

    Knock Count

I can't actually hear any pinging or knocking (unless I lug it in a higher gear). I'm pretty sure the knock sensor is working correctly after testing it this afternoon. What else could it be? It does have an exhaust leak on the left side at the rear of the manifold and at the donut. I verified...

    Knock Count

Thanks for the help guys. I've not been able to locate knock retard in TunerPro RT. Maybe it's missing from my ADX file or I don't understand how to determine it. Can any of you help with that? There is a "Knock Count" listed in TunerPro and that's what I was referring to. It will increment 2-6...

    Knock Count

I recently bought a cable setup to connect Tunerpro RT to my ’95 K1500 w/350 TBI and I’ve noticed that I’m getting knocks on the counter at about 50% throttle and above. It’s 5 speed with 178,000 on the clock and it’s almost never at 50%+ throttle but it still bothers me and I’d like to try to...

    Bilstein 4600s

I checked the measurements this afternoon and I mis-spoke above. With the shocks installed and the truck on level ground with no load, the right rear shock measures 21.5 inches from center of the bottom mount to the top mount. On the left rear, it measures 19.5 inches. So there is 2 inches...

    Bilstein 4600s

I installed new Bilstein 4600s on my truck today and I'm very pleased with the ride. The old shocks were completely toast. They had nothing left in them and stayed collapsed. The shocks are: 24-104050 front 24-020435 rear But I'm a little concerned about the amount of travel left on the rear...

    Pulling the dash

I didn't drill out the rivets either. Just removed the support bar with the dash.

    Pulling the dash

Here are some photos of the air box. The entire section above the tranny hump. The middle section with your door, east302. After the actuator was removed: The arm on the right is one I had a difficult time removing.

    Pulling the dash

It seems to adhere better to me. It sets up quick and gets real hard also.

    Pulling the dash

Unfortunately, I don't see any way you could replace it without at least pivoting the dash. That portion of the HVAC box is in 3 pieces; the air distributor (on top), middle section and a cover that is removed from the bottom. The door in your photo is in middle section but you have to remove...

    Pulling the dash

I got it done, finally. No telling how long it took me. Worked on it on and off for 3 days. Think I could do it much faster if I ever had to do it again though. I didn't end up taking the dash completely out. I just got the harness loose enough from it that I could sit the dash on the bench...

    Pulling the dash

Ok, yes, I'd saw that reinforcement kit in another thread here and was planning to order it. My dash isn't too bad yet, but it may get worse when I pull it. So what's the deal with the rivets? Can you leave them in and remove the metal bar/brace with the dash? Thanks for the repair tips...

    Pulling the dash

I wasn't aware I had to deal with any rivots, thanks. I'll check that link out.
