    Blower motor selection

Since you mentioned these brands, I do have an anecdote to share that causes me to lean more towards VDO than Four Seasons. But take it with a grain of salt, because it was a different application for a completely different car: When it came to my Mustang's radiator fan motor, the VDO motor's...

    14 bolt leaking stupid ORW!

No, we're on the same page. Beam-style torque wrench and everything. New bearings, new oil, and no apparent change at the pinion after assembly. It's been a while, but I want to say it was something like 16 or 18 lb-in. I was surprised.

    14 bolt leaking stupid ORW!

Does it matter? I'm genuinely curious. So curious in fact, that when I rebuilt a Ford 8.8 a few years ago, I re-checked the preload multiple times during reassembly to see how much effect the other parts would have on the pinion's resistance to rotation. Even after installing the axleshafts and...

Brakes and diff questions plus clutch options

How fancy is too fancy? Not sure if you're looking specifically for pre-made lines, but nickel-copper tubing is a good alternative if you don't mind bending and flaring them yourself.

Things that you've replaced that made a world of differance?

To my embarrassment, I made the rookie mistake of neglecting to check the inner brake pads, assuming that they would more or less mirror the outer side that I could see. Boy was I wrong. Fresh brakes making full pad-to-rotor contact made a world of difference. Oh, and motor mounts! Mine were...

(You have insufficient privileges to post here.)

Huh, I actually posted my reply before going back to read the rules again, and it looks like "3 months" is already listed as a means to get full access. Cool, that's exactly what I had in mind. The way it's worded (particularly the use of the word "or") makes it sound like it's being offered...

I dunno man, that seems a little too much like (eh, "spamming" isn't the right word for it, but you know what I mean). There's got to be a better way. Heck, if it were up to me, I'd just give him a free pass for having been a contributing member more than 90 days, regardless of actual post count.

    4l60e shift kit

I have two unrelated anecdotes to share, one involving a B&M kit, and the other involving TransGo, both on different daily-driver transmissions, neither of which were GM. So take the following with a nice big grain of salt. The B&M kit was in a Ford 4R70W, on the bench for a full rebuild on...

    Broken motor mount

(I can see all 3 pics from here.) The rubber can degrade and fall out in small chunks. It's not completely trapped in there. Mine were so bad that the lower portion of rubber was all but gone, and without that support, the weight had torn the upper rubber away from the mount. I guess you could...

    Electrical Problems

I remember that one. Here's a link to the follow-up post with the grand total (>$38k).

    Broken motor mount

Not sure how much different the job is on a K model, but FWIW I changed the mounts on my '95 C2500 last year. It was pretty unpleasant, but well worth the effort considering how badly worn the old mounts were. The trickiest parts for me were lining up the mount holes and trying not to lose the...

    front hitch receiver

You win some, you lose some. Giving the wheels closest to the trailer some steering angle helps with maneuverability, but you lose out on being able to watch the sides with mirrors. You'll have a good view of the front of the trailer, but you won't be able to see where the trailer wheels are...

    1999 tahoe 4×4 brake trouble

I used a rotary (Dremel) tool to cut mine out. Your local parts store should have the rubber plugs you need to cover them back up.

    Trailer plugs

Yup, that's what I did on mine. I should have checked my state's laws first though. But it looks like I might be okay. It just says that there needs to be a lamp there shining white light on the plate, and that the plate must be clearly legible from 50 feet away. I'll check it again after it...

    Torque specs question

140 lb-ft, according to this chart. But that's without spacers. You might need to use a lower spec to avoid damaging whatever kind of aluminum they're made of (or whatever grade studs they have), so I'd still go with whatever they recommend there.

    Torque specs question

"Looking to get" suggests that you haven't bought them yet... I expect you'll probably find torque specs already included with the kit. If the sales rep gives you a different number than that, then you'll want to find out whether there's been a mistake, or an update. FWIW, the lug torque chart...

    Tail Light opinions

Speaking as someone who needs to be able to see your brake lights and turn signals clearly, without mistaking them for running lights: Brighter is better, especially during the day with the sun shining on them. Smoke 'em if you want... just make sure that the bulbs are extra bright to make up...

My Rear Disc swap from drums observations

And I'll be the first to admit that I don't use my parking brake enough (gotta work on that more). My driveway is almost level (just enough of a slope to direct rainwater away), and I hardly ever find myself parking on an incline. FWIW, that's well within the parking pawl's ability to keep the...

My Rear Disc swap from drums observations

I don't want to interrupt the flow of discussion either, but 1BigCarrot touched on an interesting point. While it might not seem all that important whether we call it a parking brake or an emergency brake, I think the terminology has a real effect on how it ends up getting used. Thinking of it...

    Mystery wires 96 k1500

I agree- they look like they might be for interior lamps. That is, IF they are plain orange and plain white as they appear in the photo. There wouldn't happen to be any stripes on the wires, would there?

Another "My brake lights don't work" thread

Not sure I would trust a junkyard tail lamp any more than I trust the "parts truck" turn signal stalk. Really need to break out a test lamp or multimeter and trace power before any more parts get thrown at it. If all of the blinkers are working (which I assume includes the hazard lamps), then...

Options to replace fuel lines from tank to filter?

That looks exactly like what I pieced together for my truck (except for the threaded filter setup of course). Can't find my receipt at the moment, but I wonder what the difference in price would be. Surely the kit-maker is making a profit here, but I wonder if he's getting bulk discounts on the...

Options to replace fuel lines from tank to filter?

All of the fittings were S.U.R.&R. brand parts for use with nylon tubing, in stock at my local CarQuest: K095 - 5/16" female fitting (sender unit) (1) K100 - 3/8" female fitting (sender unit) (1) K270 - 5/16" male short line adapter (TBI) (1) K275 - 3/8" male short line adapter (TBI) (1) KP020 -...

Options to replace fuel lines from tank to filter?

Nickel-copper and nylon tubing are good alternatives to steel. They're both much easier to work with, and will never rust. On my truck, I went with NiCopp for the brake line, and nylon for the fuel. Looks like your brake line has already been changed here, seeing as it's less rusty than the...

'96+ Vortec 5.7L Timing Cover + Valve Cover Gasket Recommendations?

The seal will wear a groove in the sleeve, yes, but as the seal itself wears out and loses its grip on the sleeve and/or damper snout, it will start leaking oil before it ever gets a chance to cut through the metal.
